What kind of work do you do and where you planning to go?
The standard of living here is expensive.Depending on your family size and what your spending habits are,we have a famaly of 5 and couldnt manage on less than $100,000 a year, but then others could manage on alot less.
Rentals arent cheap here and we spend atleast $400 on utilities and about that again on a months food shopping.
Hope that helps

Hi there welcome to the forum. We used a company to help us find jobs but a good way is to do as you said and send as many resumes as possible out and also try and arrange a few interviews.

what are you doing with all your money ??For the OP, assuming your mortgage will be the same over here as it is in the UK and most other things being comparable, you should be able to live comfortably on $65,000. $100,000 a year is a very good salary (even a combined income) and most Calgarians survive very well on considerably less

Only $400 a month on food for a family of 5 and yet you need to earn $100,00 per annum - I dread to think what you are spending on alcohol each month

We decided to go for a smaller town (but still just over 80,000 residents) that had everything as a family that we needed and property wasnt as dear as the most important factor for us was our quality of family time together.
Would say that if you had a skill that was in extremely high demand then your salary could very well be in line if not more that in the UK.
My hubby did take a small cut in his salary but he does have to requalify certain aspects of his English Chartered Accountants quaification to bring it up to the Canadian qualification. His employer is paying for all of this ie the prep course, flights, hotels and exam etc which would cost $000's and they gave him a relocation package too to move to Canada.
I would think that once he qualified then he would be getting a pay rise as at the mo he doesnt have the Candian designation to practice - even though he holds a UK Chartered Accountancy Practicing Certificate.

We get paid every 2 weeks.the 1st of the month we get $3000 between us and pay $1700 rent and $650 child care.the next pay we do our shopping and pay the bills and then it has to last a month. We usualy have around $2000 a month left. When you have 2 teenagers playing sports and a hungry car to feed with petrol it dosent go far. Before i got a job hubbies wages were $4200 a month and we barley managed. We dont drink much at all so god knows where it all goes
