Default From a job advert on Workopolis ...

While we appreciate the strong skills of IT professionals from across the country, please be aware that we are only accepting applications from people currently residing in Alberta at this time.

To be more specific, please understand that we don't see Toronto as part of Alberta.

I liked that ....

Odd. Wouldn't touch that company with a bargepole, even if I were an Alberta resident looking for an IT job.

After I finished smirking I did wonder - would that be legal to actually admit to not looking at resumes from out of province? (Mind you, it is what the majority of companies actually do....)

A lot of Alberta jobs say that - wouldn't stop me applying if I was interested.

Admittedly the BC jobs that said the equivalent really annoyed me when I was looking for work over there.

LOL! I never heard that one before.

Did you come up with that yourself?

We used to use a similar description for Birmingham when I lived in Leicester ...ie. if you wanted to give the UK an enema, you'd stick the tube into the middle of Birmingham ... I'm really surprised if that's the first time you've heard a variant of the term.

I got caught out before.

I got laid off after asking when I was getting my salary review in my first job.

As review time approached in my second job, I posted my resume on Workopolis in preparation for getting fired.

One of the recruiters spotted it by the next morning and I got asked exactly what I was playing at .... I got to keep the job and got a pay rise too
