Just wanted to spread my good news with everyone. I arrived in Canada on the 5th Feb 2005 with my husband who is a truck driver. He had a 12 month work permit but I had to sit at home for 12 months waiting for the Saskatchewan govt to nominate us. Well, we got our nomination on the 15th Feb 2006, went down to Portal on the 20th Feb 2006 so he could renew his work permit and I was given one too. $300 later we left Portal back to Saskatoon. I applied for a job as a receptionist the day after, got interview and 2 days later they rang me to say I had the job. I started on Tuesday. It is so good to get back into the world.
I'm off out tonight to celebrate.

I'm off out tonight to celebrate.I had good news too last week. I had been taken on as "casual" and undertook 3 weeks induction, which finished last week. Nobody had told me what I might be doing afterwards, and I was getting nervous. It turns out I was right to be nervous cos though I'd been assured there'd be "plenty of work" in fact there wasn't any with the dept that hired me!
However, my manager took me to meet another area manager who just said, "oh good, do you want to work P/T or F/T? Good I'll take you F/T til the end of March.... In fact do you want to apply for the F/T position that I'm just about to advertise???"
So from not knowing if I'd have any regular work, I've suddenly got a F/T job, on a good salary too!
We needed a second car, so guess what .... I think I've gone mad,.... just bought a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 78000 km on the clock!!

Well done and congratulations to you both. I expect you both feel a little more settled and secure now and more like permanent residents. Again congratulations.

Hi, How's your jeep? we're moving to Chestermere in June and have been looking at jeep's on the internet similar to the age and mileage of yours, prices don't seem too bad for a starter car. don't want brand new until we've mastered the roads!

I did a drive-by just now to show my son and have a quick gloat. It's fire-engine red..... I never had a red car before. My brother will approve; he's a fireman in UK, and all his cars seem to be red!!
