Issues texting a Canadian cell phone
Evening all. Thanks for your help with my last post.
Over the last few weeks, I have had an issue texting Canadian cell phones from my UK cellphone. I definitely have the right number programmed into my phone because I can receive text messages from this number, yet when I click 'reply' on my cellphone, it's not sending. Furthermore, I can call this number from my UK cell and I can receive calls from it too.
I've spoken to my UK provider (O2) who assure me that there is no block on the account which might prevent me from texting overseas. Plus I've text friends and family in other countries too.
I know that my colleague in Canada is on the Rogers network - it's him that I'm trying to text.
Anyone had a similar issue from the UK or any suggestions?
The number I receive texts and calls from is +1 905 *** ****, just so you understand the format I'm texting.
Thanks and best wishes,
Paul

Always found North American numbers a pain in the ass on O2
It recognises the +1 on incoming, but won't reply or redial...you have to change them to the format mentioned above
so basically you wanna dial 00 1 (905) *** ****

Many years ago when Mr C was in Canada and I was in uk - I had O2 and could not text him although I could receive texts. I was being charged for each international text I sent too! I left them and went to 3 and my problem was solved. O2 obviously still haven't resolved the problem!

I agree with TiryTory.
If you have a smartphone, get WhatsApp, it's brilliant. Text, send photos and videos all free over wifi.

I had a similar problem when friends were here from the UK. They could text me ok but my replies never arrived with them and nor did I get any message failure notices. I've no idea what caused it as I can text other UK phones

As someone up-thread already pointed out, the Canadian for + isn't the same as the English. If you just hit reply it won't work.

I find this an effective application for communicating with people in Switzerland and Kurdistan. It can even send and receive pictures to and from Vancouver.
