Also I do know that for about £30 you can buy a world wide charger for ipods so you dont need to charge via a computer - got mine from Carphone Warehouse.

Although... I was in the Apple Store yesterday, and somebody brought in a broken British iPod for warranty replacement. Apparently, they can't replace it with a North American one. Something to think about.

I-Pod's and MP3 players are cheaper over here, so definately don't buy anything else before you come over. I bought a nano for my wife and it works fine with her UK laptop and existing I-tunes.
As a side issue - if you plan to bring a laptop/computer you will need to get a different disc drive to play Canadian DVD films or buy UK/European region one's from the web... Just a side issue but i have a UK laptop and can't take advantage of all the cheap US/Canadian DVD's as they won't run on my laptop. Mind you if you are staying for any period of time DVD players are as cheap as $30 !!

If you use iTunes UK version you can't purchase new releases from the USA site and vice versa. Think it's to do with release dates.
I charge up my iPod on my Bose docking bay - its dual voltage. I bought it from John Lewis last year for 250 GBP. Here its $399. It has great sound quality so my iPod has replaced my hifi. Great for simply picking up and taking out to the deck too for parties.

Searching for the dvd will bring up what you need.

although you might also need to change the software you use to view your DVDs as this can be region-locked sometimes too. VLC, I think is a good example of this.

If you know how to get to the DVD drive properties in Windows then you can change the region up to four times.

but to avoid going the firmware hack route, - http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm
that works pretty well.

Thanks for the advice all. I didn't know you could change the region by simply using properties in windows
. Have now changed my laptop to the correct region (four changes should be OK as my wife also has a laptop so we can keep hers set to UK and use mine for US/Canadian).
Whoopeee.... roll on the cheap Canadian DVD's i'm going to go out and buy now.

Could you change it to Region 0? This is normally the region-free code to change your dvd player to when hooked up to the TV.
