If you can unlock your iphone and it has the right "band" for NA, then it should be able to work here. All you will need here is a contract with a provider for the data/voice
Rogers was the 1st to bring the iphone to Canada, don't know if others have since jumped in

I plan on taking my iPhone. Have just requested it to be unlocked. O2 say it should take 14 days to be unlocked. What I did notice, with o2, is that if you are not on a contract (i.e. PAYG) then it will cost about £15 - so make sure you get it unblocked before you cancel any contract you might be on, just incase there is a charge!

I have an iPhone also.
Can I be clear on something. Are you saying you took a locked iPhone from the UK to Canada and were able to get it unlocked in Canada then start using it on another (Canadian) network?
If so, was it easy to find someone to unlock it?
All the best

You can call your old network in the UK from here and they will do it for you since it is performed remotely by Apple on the iTunes servers.

Yes I unblocked here in toronto.
Not sure on the rules here, but if you want the name, location and contact number of where to get it done. I will post if allowed or PM you the details.

What networks have people found give them the best value for money when it comes to using their smart phones?

I ask as if an unlock utility, for example RedSn0w / Pwnage Tool, then these are free utilities and so you should not have to pay to get this done. Additionally, these type of unlocks are usually invalidated if you upgrade the iOS version running on the iPhone, and you would, if it is possible to do so, need to unlock the phone again if you upgrade the iOS version.
If it's the same unlock that O2 would provide then it will work over iOS upgrades.
