Default interviews and dependants

I'm applying for immigration with my partner. She is A US citizen but is here studying for her degree. She is divorced and has two children from her marriage - one 18 and the other 15. They both live with their father in the USA and thus are not intending to come to Canada with us.

I know that we are to include them in our application as dependents who are not accompanying us. If it came to an interview requests, however, would they be expected to come over from the USA to attend with us?

Best to be prepared, eh? Flights from Montana to the UK are NOT cheap

I read on the other board, the immigration one, that interview attendees were being specifically asked *not* to bring children with them to interview so I wouldn't worry about it. Not an expert though, I'm sure someone else will know for definite.

Hi Liverpool Lou,
We have recently been told we are to attend an interview at CHC, we are waiting for our interview date to come through. I also have a step-daughter who is nearly 18 (in April) but who lives in Dubai with her mother and is not coming with us to Canada, we hope that they don't ask her to attend interview as all communication broke down with her last year. So would make it very difficult. But we think that they do want to discuss the issue with my hubby(her father) to make sure he knows he can not sponser her at a future date, because of not putting her on the main application. So will let you know when we get the letter, hopefully in next month. I am fairly certain if under 18 or maybe 22 that they don't attend interviews.

They tell you striclty NOT to bring children under 18.
I take it this means you can bring over 18 IF you want to but it is not necessary. I just think it is because they could not cope with lots of kids running around when they are trying to conduct interviews. But over 18's should be able to behave!!
