Interim Health Care in Ontario for 3 months when landing?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend who they used for Health insurance until their OHIP kicked in?

Many thanks :)

I have just been wondering the same thing, so also interested to hear if anyone can make recommendations.

I haven't used them, but I found this company that does emigration insurance (was looking for my son a couple of years ago) which may be of use.

http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsu...ies_Emigration

"..This product, which is underwritten by Europ-Assistance, offers clients cover on their travels to their final country of destination / Emigration (for a period of 5 days to 6 months), but what is new and exciting is that we can offer cover INSIDE their new country of Emigration for a period of One, Two or Three Months..."

5 days (pre emigration) costs £16, 3 months additional cover (post-emigration) in Canada costs £107 - a total of £123.

For the policy details (which is in 2 parts, one pre-emigration and one post-emigration): http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsu...le/EM_2010.pdf

This comes up quite often if you search the posts, plus there is a list of suppliers in the wiki area.

CanadaSure is one I seem to recall comes up quite often?

That's who we used. They were affordable and efficient. No complaints at all

We used http://www.visitorsinsurance.ca/#/ for ours. Make sure the insurance you go for is for immigrants and not just for visitors to Canada.

Seems so expensive, £560 for 3 months for a family of 4. Think I just begrudge paying anything as I'm a returning citizen!

We were in the same boat - husband returning citizen too. It is xpensive, but we found it too risky to be without. We are all pretty healthy but you just never know.
Of course we never had to use ours - but knowing we were covered was one less worry at a steessful time.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that in some provinces returning citizens dont necessarily have the 3 month wait, but I dont recall the details.... you might want to google that or check the appropriate provincial website before stumping up for coverage you may not need....

We checked for my husband and he had to wait in Ontario - he lived in NS when he lived here before. Our daughters were citizens (although they had never lived here) and they had to wait 3 months. Maybe if you have an expired OHIP card you may not need to wait? Although you would still need cover for the rest of the family anyway.

You do need to wait. I have an ohip card but it is a right by residence so I'm just like anyone else. Just got a quote from downunder insurance as well for only £300. Will compare and let you know!

Another vote for CanadaSure. It cost us 390GBP for a family of 4. We also had one claim which was dealt with fairly efficiently.
