Just call around some different driving schools, they all offer different options or length of lessons and content etc.

When I moved to Ontario you still had to take the driving test to swap your UK licence so I had a couple of lessons first to get up to speed on local driving nuances etc. I just called a local guy and did a couple of hours instruction and then, because I didn't own a car, I paid to use their car during the driving test and did an hour or so before the test to get into the right driving mode etc. for a test.

You can go anywhere from very structured courses like Young Drivers to small local indipendant instructors. Their rates will vary as will the quality of their instruction.

The other thing to bear in mind though is that you can't do the same intensive program as in the UK because of the graduated system. There is a mandated minimum time period in between each of the stages i.e. G1->G2->G according to the MTO page
( http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...adu/index.html )
you have to have the G1 for 12 months minimum before you can take the exit test to get your G2, then you have to have the G2 for a minimum of 12 months before you can tak ethe final test to get the full G license. That way they ensure you have (theoretically) a couple of years driving experience before getting a full licence. I think you can speed it up a little bit by taking approved courses like Young Drivers but only by a month or two.

When I was 17 in the UK I liked the fact that I could get my license after a couple of weeks of lessons. However looking back now I recall how some of my friends used to drive and they could possibly have done with a little more than a few weeks instruction before being given a full license. In the end though, apart from restrictionson blood alcohol and teenage passengers and the fact it expires the G2 isn't much different than a full G licence for most purposes.
