Default Which insurance should we get, SP and SOWP, BC

My husband and I are heading out to Vancouver in January for him to study and me work. My question is what insurance should we get for our trip out there?

We can get temporary medical insurance (until MSP kicks in) through Student Sure but need our baggage covered until we find a place to live and get contents insurance. All one way insurance seems to suggest we need to be going to Canada as new permanent residents and not on temporary visas. Also, can we even get contents insurance as temporary residents?!

My other question is; when MSP kicks in we will be buying extended cover as well, does this usually include cover for accidents that happen on the ski hill? For example, worst case scenario, being helicoptered down? This may seem like a silly question but just checking!!

Any help would be much appreciated....

You may be best to talk to an insurance broker here, such as Johnston Meier or Barton. Travel isnurance ends when you arrive at your destination, I am not aware of anything that will cover your belongings other than a renters policy or homeowners policy.

Extended health is pretty expensive you you pay for your own, most cover winter sports, some charge extra for it.

I found this company that does an insurance which may be of use.

http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsu...ies_Emigration

"...This product, which is underwritten by Europ-Assistance, offers clients cover on their travels to their final country of destination / Emigration (for a period of 5 days to 6 months), but what is new and exciting is that we can offer cover INSIDE their new country of Emigration for a period of One, Two or Three Months..."

5 days (pre emigration) costs £16, 3 months additional cover (post-emigration) in Canada costs £107 - a total of £123.

For the policy details (which is in 2 parts, one pre-emigration and one post-emigration): http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsu...le/EM_2010.pdf
