How much do you want to see?

I spent 3 weeks just checking out the southern interior of BC (4 hours east of Vancouver). In terms of a $ amount, you can camp for next to nothing or spend $100's per night in nice hotels. Add car rental, food etc etc, just like a regular vacation.

If you're thinking about living in Nova Scotia, why would you do an info gathering trip in Vancouver, BC? They're completely opposite ends of the country.

I had not quite realised 'how big' Canada was, and quite how many hours travelling it can take Vicky. My husband was born in Vancouver, but all his family live in Calgary. We are moving to New Brunswick, but currently live in France....It takes him more time in an aircraft to travel from Paris to his mother or indeed his place of work than it does to us in New Brunswick (not too far from Nova Scotia). It is too too huge to not think of this in advance - and I admit it hadn't occurred to me either, until I tried it, so please..have a big think. Best of luck.

one thing to bear in mind also is that Nova Scotia is very different from Vancouver! I love both, but I wouldn't choose to emigrate to Nova Scotia based on a visit to Vancouver....

This is a "how long is a piece of string?" question. It really depends. I'm sure there's probably a "typical" recce trip - maybe one part of the country for a week or less, staying in a hotel and eating in restaurants. Some people stay longer. Some stay with friends/family to cut the costs. Some travel from one end of the country to the other. First figure out where, when and how long you want to visit - then it should be fairly easy to figure out a rough budget. After you have a budget for your planned itinerary, you can adjust the itinerary if you don't like the budget.

We visited Calgary last year (family of 5), stayed in a friends basement, did a lot of outdoor stuff, paid to get into the odd attraction, hired a car for a few days, borrowed our friends car for the rest (so just petrol to pay for). We chipped in on our friends food bill and went for a few meals out.

Cost about £2500 for flights, and we spent about $2500 whilst we were there.

I wouldn't say we splashed the cash around, nor were we penny pinching.
