Indian restaurants in Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa
Any recommendations? Last weekend we went back to The Mount Everest in Pickering village, previously excellent this time it wasn't good at all and we won't go back. We've tried the one down by Whitby harbour, it was ok but not outstanding.
So, any suggestions would be appreciated. There are two meh places in Peterborough so we don't bother with them and I can cook a good meal but sometimes you just want to go out and scoff.

Does the lack of answers mean there are none worth recommending? Or are you Durhamites hiding?

Hope you're not setting your bar too high, coming from the (new) land of curry... I've had a few good ones here but nothing to match the best of Britain.
Nothing really east of the DVP either.

If you're in Ottawa, I'd suggest the Urban Turban or the East India Company.
Sorry no knowledge specific to Durham.
If in doubt, go to Trip Advisor...

There was a place on Highway 7 between Tweed and Kaladar that looked pretty sketch..I think it was part of a motel..but the last time I drove by it looked closed.

We like Zeera, towards the bottom of Liverpool in Pickering, although haven't been in a while. Another place I've heard good reports of is Signature which is on Dundas, just west of Anderson/Hopkins - only been the once and it was buffet style that evening - but other people have commented very positively about it.

Chowhound isn't a review site, it's a forum where people ask these types of questions. For the BC Chowhound forum, I've found it an excellent resource for sourcing specific types of dishes at restaurants. I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask about Indian restaurants on their Ontario forum.

We got totally duped by this place in Bowmanville...over rated despite reasonable ratings on Trip Advisor...and just down the street from a British shop.

There is one on the corner of Kingston and Church in Pickering Village. We been a few times it's ok, buffet is a bit veggie, get a meal and ask for it hot or it just be mild.

Another is at Liverpool Road at the lights before frenchmans bay South of 401 on the left. This one is the one u been too I think
Have a look at the plaza end of Salem, near Taunton in Ajax. It's a Take away home made Indian. The food is good.
Best take away is on Morningside on the plaza before Tims, near Sheppard on the east side. It's all West Indian stores and in the corner is a Biriani Take away, cafe style eat in. Maybe the best curry in the whole area here, families go and sit in and eat, and it's hot enough to please me, the naams are to die for. !!! (That's if u dare go in? It's very erm, Indian here) not an issue for me plus they know me now as I go in loads now. English isn't the first language in there, but the young lad there is ok at English, his mum not so good lol
Oh yeh cross the road near Sobeys is a Carabean take away cafe style eat in, they do the best chicken boneless Rotis. :@)

I think the one on Kingston and Church is Everest, which you know already, and the one on Liverpool south of the 401 is Zeera which I mentioned above so sounds like it's worth you trying!

Sorry Teitcher I missed your post earlier. Yep. Zeera is the other one we have used.
Will maybe give Signature a try or the take out Magnumpi mentioned at Morningside.

bats - when did you last go to Zeera? It has changed hands in the four years we've been going to it and did improve, perhaps two years ago?
