Default Importing Car from US into Canada

Dear Friends,

I landed in March 2003 here in Canada. Went to India and had vaccation for about 3 months. My H1 got expired in June 2003. I have my car in US. I applied for visit visa to go and get my car. But the consulate has refused to issue me a visit visa to US. The visa officer said he is not convinced because I still do not have a job here. He also said I was not able to show proper tieup with Canada like showing Employment Letter, Pay Stubs, etc. I tried to convince him that my visit would be only for 2 days.

So, I am planning to ask one of my friend to drive upto the US-Canada border and I want to take my car from there.
Could somebody suggest will there be any problems in doing so.

And other thing is should I take the Insurance for my car before moving it or can I take it after I bring the car here into Canada. I still have NY state Driver Licence.

Any suggessions would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Bala
