Default Importing a 15 year old vehicle. 1995 Fiat Panda

I come into owning 1995 Fiat Panda with 16,000 miles on it, its in great condition.

I know I can import it but how easy would it be.

This car has special thing, for me. I know it probably not worth it but its car I would really like to drive in Canada.

It's not very difficult to import it, Oakvillian and MikeUK imported cars from the UK, very many posters imported cars from the US. I'm sure there are old threads explaining the procedure.

Note however that Fiat has no distribution in Canada or the US. Every part is going to have to be sourced from Europe.

Ahem. It may not help with a 1995 Fiat but www.fiatcanada.com might be a start.

Fiat owns 100% of Chrysler, so they might be around these parts for a while.

The importing bit is fairly easy, however is it worth it?

At least £1100 to get it to Halifax on RoRo from Southampton, or more in a container, then import duties and provincial taxes, inspection etc...

What condition is it in?

Not sure I would be too keen on driving a small RHD car over here.

Some Provinces won't allow you to register RHD now (iirc) and others may follow.

There are lots of RHD cars in Calgary, mostly imports from Japan. It may be classed as a classic due to the age ( 19 years by my figures) which means it should have less restrictions on it regarding emissions ect, and I think less duty. Although it may have to be 25 yrs to be a classic.

25 years is for importing to the US, it's 15 years for Canada. If it's older than that there are no emission control or similar regulations in effect. There won't be any duty or taxes, it's part of the OP's personal baggage. There are, of course, lots of RHD cars here too.

Does that mean my old, rusty 1999 Chevvy Cavalier won't need an emissions or safety inspection ever again? Yeah !!
