$1Million? Come on. In BC in 2009 there were exactly 10 GPs who made more than $600K See the results from 2009 from the Globe and Mail

I am also aware of potential medical students who have gone to Australia to complete their medical degree because the competition locally is high.
Yes, the competition is high and only the best get in.

But if your friend was unable to obtain a CPSO licence, it was NOT because they have a quota on the number of licences they issue. There is a number of strict requirements that have to satisfied, and the reason for not getting a licence is the inability to comply with those requirements. Once you do, you get a licence. There is no cap on the number that can be issued any given year.

personal anecdotal evidence, not sure it thats gross or net and they might have other interests, such as other users of a building paying rent etc. but still income is income!

i am just recounting the story as it was told to me, his feeling was that there was some form of (hidden?)limit on the number of Family doctors that could be funded. Seems far fetched I know, but he was living with the problem so i assume he had a degree of understanding about it

Licensing and funding are managed by two different agencies in Ontario. You need to be properly licensed to apply for funding, but the CPSO has nothing to do with money distribution.... I can't know what your friend's issue was, but this is a weird story. Maybe he just wanted to go to the US and came up with this excuse

His story may have dated back from that period when the canadians wound back their medical student training in the belief that they had enough doctors.
