Not sure about the rules regarding import of motorbikes but I can tell you that the presence of an off-road bike in your container is almost certain to trigger an inspection of the container (which casts you about $800) as they will be looking for traces of soil on it.

Any more so than a container that has outdoor garden furniture, spades, bicycle, tools etc? If everything's thoroughly pressure washed and clean, it's not a big issue.

I would think you would require to drain all gas and oil from the machine

^^Wot he said^^
If your not going to use it on the road or register it, it doesn't matter - you one of the lucky ones, most people end up selling their beloved bikes

Quite but the trouble is they dont know if its pressure-washed etc. Their only way to be sure is to inspect it. Having had it happen and pay the extortionate fee I would not bring anything over that might contain soil - generally cheaper to replace the things here in Canada than pay the charges.

If you do your job thoroughly, then customs have no need to charge for a cleaning session. I pressure washed, disinfected, and where possible/necessary lightly re-sprayed anything that might be deemed dirty.

hi
okay...we've just gone through a similar thing (although the container not left the uk as yet)......
but, we had several motorbikes, go-karts, etc etc......the harley we had to sell as couldn't use in canada, due to emmissions......off roads, we sold, same thing......15 + year old norton is no probs and is going in the container......15 + year old trident sold (MUCH to my annoyance.....!!!!), go-karts all gone, due to engine size's no good in canada........
you HAVE to drain all petrol, oil etc from the engines until fumes.......need a little to keep the engines 'lubbbed up'......
finally, all parts have to be jet washed to remove ALL soil (i'm sure that's not possible but we've jet and steam cleaned all visible parts......this includes everything that came/comes into contact with the out side; so all garden stuff included......
you are NOT allowed to take any oils, petroleums etc into canada......this includes all those very expensive oils etc that you have lurking in the garage.....wd40, solvitte etc etc......
finally.....from the horses mouth, a copy of the email i had back recently from the canadian border services agency......give whom ever is applicable to you, a call, email etc etc......

Why did you not bring the Trident? I have a 91 Trident that I want to bring - it's probably only worth £500-£600 but I've spent so much time getting it running that I really don't want to get rid of it. Even though I know I'll have to retake my bike test, I don't think I'll feel like I've arrived in NS until I've ridden on those big empty roads

upside is, i'll buy a nice new harley from the proceeds and yes, it only went for £1000......what you got?

Mine's an early example of the Hinckley Trident 900cc, 1991. I bought it off ebay as a rough runner, seized brakes, high miles... but I got it roadworthy and were we not emigrating the next job was to deal with the cosmetics. I would love to continue the project once we get to NS, especially because a Triumph in Canada is a relative rarity. When we were in NS in the summer most of the bikes I saw seemed to be Harleys, with a few jap sports bikes.
