With our COPR we received a form which must be signed to show the childrens immunization records are up to date for school. My lads are now teenagers, they had all the MMR, whooping cough, polio, tetanus pre school.
I've just compared the canadian/British vaccinations given at high school age and it appears in canada that they receive Hepatitus B, MEN C and a 3 in 1 booster all of which aren't or haven't been offered at their uk school. Should i be asking the doctor to carry these out before we go?

when i moved over with my 14year old daughter i just brought proof of her immunization from the uk and then when we moved over we got the others done here . I live in Ontario so im not sure where you are heading but it wasnt a big problem here. they do have to have certain injections before they allow them into school but its easy enough to get them done .

I got asked a few weeks ago to send my son's immunisation records into school and the school nurse called me and said he hadn't had as many as the Canadian children and was due a booster.

They get one more shot of combined whopping cough, diptheria, polio and tetanus than the UK children so we just went into the clinic and he got it done. No fuss or anything.

I would just send them in and if you are offered them when you get here and you want to take them then get them done.

Mine have had theirs (UK), but just wondering....

Having said that, we were offered another MMR at age 15 in the UK but turned it down. Reason for the offer was to catch those who hadn't had two doses but all ours have had both. And they don't routinely do TB vaccination any more.

We're landing in June - can't have them delayed starting school in September, they will have been off 3 months at that point!

The TB vaccinations in the UK depend on where you live. We were in Manchester and the girls had the BCGs done. In Ontario if you have lived out of Canada within the last 5 years the kids might need chest xrays. We just gave them copies of the BCG jabs done in M'cr and it was fine.
Other than that we did the same. We took them to a doctor here and got all the injections up to Canadian standards.

We were in London when it was BCG time for our son - I would have thought London would have been one of the highest risk areas, but still it wasn't given.

Oh well, hopefully they can sort it out over the summer hols, although I am told we won't get a GP in NS, so guess it will have to be done at walk in clinic?

You could always try to take this to your GP in the UK and get the kids up to NS standards. http://www.gov.ns.ca/hpp/cdpc/immunization.asp

ask if they'll give them the BCGs. Explain about the emigration.

In M'cr the kids get it at the age of 1 ish but as we were moving and knew about the living out of Canada rules, I asked our GP if he could give the 18 weeks old baby the BCG and he said it wasn't a problem.

Can't see BCG on the list and I think they've had all the rest except for Hep B. Think we will leave it as it is and they can get them over the summer in NS, as it will only be one or two.

they won't ge banned , don't recall where you are going but I can tell you how it works in Ontario

at some point towards the end of the year Public health send us a list of all the students who appear to be missing vaccinations.

this info gets pssed onto parents. (0% of the time it is because public health's records are not up to date.
the parents fax or email the amended records to public health

public health then send the school a list of students that we are to issue a notice to ( basically a you can't attend school unless you fix the situation)

the school does this, the parents complain, the school tells them to conatct public health , who usually issue an extension.

this continues until around the end of the school year! noone gets banned , eventually MOST of the records get updated.

and so the cycle continues

when dd started school they asked to see her immi records from uk, didnt stop her going in the meantime, just cos they were due some jabs - she was not impressed had to have chicken pox vaccine because she was under 1 when she had CP. asked me why i had written it down like a good scrapbooker and not been forgetful like any normal mother

she had the jabs they offer and thats that. ( all free if you have MSP - here in bc)

I spoke with both my sons prospective schools yesterday to ask some questions regarding registering them as we arrive the day they close for summer. I mentioned the immunization record and they said no problem, if the school nurse highlights any outstanding they can just have them done at the doctors/clinic as needed.

If you don't want your child to receive any more vaccinations (I know some have been expected to redo any in a different schedule, basically meaning getting the same thing twice), you can sign an exemption form, available from your local health unit, when you arrive.
