Hello everyone

I ve just booked a flight to canada(thomascook), one way,i received a confirmation letter which says that i should have a work permit or suitable visa to enter with this type of ticket.
I am going to travel with my wife ,who received pr and she will activate it when we land there ,we decided that my pr application to be made inside canada.

Should I change my ticket to a return or not? We do not plan to travel next year to uk,that was the reason going for one way,cheaper too.I would not like to be put on a plane back to uk

I don't quite understand why you were not included on your wifes PR application.

Your wife would be OK getting on the flight, you may not. The airline may not let you board on a one way ticket and no right of residency, as the letter you have received has already told you. Immigration may or may not let you in, the fact that your wife as PR and you don't may make them reluctanct as you would have to convince them you would leave when required to do so. This may also be the case even with a return ticket as well.

Until you arrive at the airport and at immigration there is no way of knowing. It may have been a good idea to check this out before purchasing a ticket!

We are about to get married,i tried to picture it as it will happen.She was a single applicant at that time and she wants me to be with her while we start our new life,I understand it will take longer to get my pr there.I am still to see a high commision for a visa ,so they should know if I am ok or not

From what you've said, it sounds as though your fiancée has a PR visa, but has not yet landed. Marrying after receiving the visa but before landing is a big no-no. As you said, she was issued the visa as a single person and marriage is a change in circumstances that would make it invalid. She needs to land before she marries you, otherwise a few hundred quid in lost airfare is the least of your worries.

You've not said whether or not you live together. Note that living together for more than a year makes you a common-law couple in the eyes of Canadian immigration, so you also need to ensure that you don't do that before she lands.

It might be a good idea to get some advice on this.

That's what I was thinking. Sounds very dicey, def worth some professional advice.

Thanks everyone for your replies.We were not fully aware of all this.We did live toghether for months not years.If this is the case ,we definately need more flights to buy now

We have decided that she should activate her pr and that I should apply for a tourist visa thereafter. Is it possible for me to marry a permanent resident of canada with a tourist visa? Do i need to mention this to the immigration office when applying for the visa?

If you are a British Citizen you don't "apply" for a tourist visa, you can just go as a tourist for up to 6 months. If you tell them immigration officers you are going to get married that could just complicate things. There is no guarantee that you will be allowed to stay over the 6 months but you can apply when you are there.

If she lands after you have married and she hasn't declared you, then you'll have problems!

She needs to add you to her application asap, or you need to delay the marriage until after she's landed. Otherwise she can have her PR taken away, plus she won't be able to sponsor you anyway as they'll see the date of the marriage preceded her PR being activated.

i came here just on a one way ticket, just for a long vacation, but was offered job while here so never left.
