hi guys the airtransit website states:
'We would like to remind you that no animals of any kind are accepted on flights going to, from or connecting in the United Kingdom.'

does this mean you can't take a dog from uk to canada anymore?

It must be a recent policy of Air Transat, as Air Canada will transport pets, and I suspect others will to. We are investigating this for our move with dog. Seems to be a lot of restrictions as to when pets can travel though, mainly to do with baggage hold temperatures.

Hi

From memory I think this has been the case with the info on Air Transat website for a while, however if you contact their cargo area direct you can arrange transportation.

Here are the contact details that 4 bells passed to me a while ago

chap was Dave Swift at Air T cargo - TS Clipper I think is there company name -

Hope this helps

thanks for that, just called the number and the guy thought he could offer the service on a limited basis, (april only) but then checked the system and it said they can't offer it at all.
a bit strange.
i'll try the email address as well!
cheers

anyone else with any info would be much appreciated.
i suppose if we flew air canada it would be about £1000 each for me and the wife and say the £125 for our dog. £2,125

if i use an agent £1,700 for our dog and we could fly air transat for say £500 for the two of us so there's not much difference.

i would really prefer to be on the same plane as jess!

Hi Tracie107

Does the price depend on what size crate you need for the dog? We have a Rottie so would need a large crate, also is that price with them travelling in the cargo hold?

Yes

We brought two Rotties with us - they are unlikey to be able to fly as excess baggage with any airline as most have a weight limit of 32kgs (incl the crate) for excess baggage.

Hi BC Roo,

I spoke to someone who makes the wooden crates for pets (they are lighter than the plastic type) and conform to the IATA airline standards. He talked me through everything. we have 2 dogs, 1 is 30 kgs and the other is 35kgs, there are measurements for the dog that you need to do- basically the weight of dog + crate x overall surface area of the crate = the total weight.

with air canada, if the total weight comes under 100kgs then the airline charges £15 per kg, if the total weight is more han 100kgs then the price drops to £6.50 per kg.

our 2 dogs came it at 98kgs including both crates made, we have 2 tortoises also being shipped so the overall weight and price per kg was worked out at the cheaper price per kg, they are booked as 1 complete cargo being shipped...

hope this is helpful

good luck

kae n col
