Re: I'm so sad!!!!

[QUOTE=anne-ireland;7399883]We arrived 10 weeks ago today, and everything was going so well up to about 4 weeks ago - My oh was let go from the company that brought him over.
We thought that was it and were preparing to go home - anyway another company stepped in at last minute and pulled out all the stops to apply for lmo - this came back the other day, great we thought, until we and company realised it was for only 8 Weeks!!! company were told though they could extend and it should'nt be a problem???

Anyway in meantime i have started my dream job and kids are finally settled in school, all we want to do is try and make ago of things here!

So now we all have to go to the border and get new wp that will be only valid for 8 weeks, and if they dont extend that is the end of the dream:(

I just feel so sad about everything, we are actually just thinking about giving up and going home....

:confused:I am a nice person and dont want to annoy anyone but I want to just say something-

I dont understand why people move to another country on a work permit/IMO, I really dont get it especially when you have kids, it just to me seems so risky and unsure and unsettling.

In my opinion you should commit, after a few reccies if you feel the need, then at least when you do come on a PR you CAN stay with no hassles, OK it takes longer to get a PR but if thats what you really want then so what?

I talked to another gent in your same position and he has kids too and he is all upset cause he cant find another company to sponsor him so is having to pack up and go back, such a waste, take the time in the first place especially the way the economy is at the moment, maybe I am talking stupid as I did not even consider anything other than a PR and dont know what I am talking about(correct me if I am)but if a WP or IMO is such a shaky choice then why do it?

Anyway, I hope things work out for you, it sounds like you love where you are, Good luck:)

I don't know how to reply to that, except to say that we thought we had done enough research, oh spoke with company a month before we left home, as we had heard that things were slowing. He was given all sorts of reassurances, about the work the company had.

But, yes, we knew we were taking a risk, can i just clarify though, we have not sold our house, just most of our furniture and i have only taken a leave of absense from my job.

However my oh is 47 and all he wanted to do was feel worthy again by being able to work and provide for his family, he had not been able to do this for over a year at home and i could see his self worth dissolving in front of me. We weighed all of this up and felt it was worth the risk, if it doesnt work out, then we will have tried.

I suppose i am frustrated and upset because when he started work it was as if he had won the lottery - all we want is a small break, if we have to go home after a year or two so be it.......

Sorry for rambling
Anne

Dont rush into anything, people keep saying things will pick up soon, glad you had the sense not to sell up though, the guy I spoke to had and has nothing to go back to and no savings here, the house he bought in Edmonton is now worth less as the market has dropped, would not like to be in his shoes:(

I really hope it works out for you, lots of people are struggling at the moment(including myself-new business)so dont feel alone, I know its hard but at least you have something at the moment, I was once told if you wish hard enough you get what you want in life and so far it has worked for me, am wishing even harder now that things get busy for me but will throw a few in for you too:thumbsup:

Hi Pammy, there are loads of people who unfortunatly do not qualify for PR and for them its the only option to get out of the UK. Myself and family are included in this and we have looked at OZ, NZ, Florida and Canada but because we dont have any formal qualifications our options are limited. To get sponsorship and hopefully PR later is a huge gamble but for some its the only way. We are hoping that OH can get LMO/TWP but we are not going to sell up we will rent out if we manage to gain employment so it does leave our options open if things dont work out.

Anne,

My heart goes out to you. But it obviously was the right decision, because you have found somewhere you love, so now it's time to fight for it! Could you now start applying for a PR - is either you or your husband on the list of 38? The system is speeding up at the moment. And eventhough it's only for 8 weeks, is it possible that he/the Company will be able to organise a further extension? You've made that really difficult break and I really hope you find the energy and the job to keep you there! Things are not good here - exhaust every option and know that lots of people here are rooting for you!

On an aside, it's fantastic to see the kindness and empathy and support on this site, it's a credit to you guys and to BE!

Hi Anne, We were a family that came out on a TWP - we had already put our application in for PR but was told things would be speeded up if we had a job offer - so we got a job offer, flew over and started work. Yes we did put all our eggs in one basket and we did talk about a plan b if plan a didn't work - plan be was 'Where do we go if we can't stay here?????' From my understanding now - 4 years on, those that have PR application in the pipe line are taking 4 plus years to be looked at as the people that have job offers are being processed 1st.

If people never took risks, how boring would life be? Some people are thinkers and some people are doers.

I know which one I would rather be...(am here on a TWP with two kids, one cat, one grizzly OH, we own a house here AND one in the UK...).

Life is for living....so go live it!

We have kids - we came out on 3 yr LMO/WP, still have property in UK. Even if we cannot get PR for some reason, and we go back after 3 years, I don't regret it. Giving our kids an amazing experience, skiing every weekend etc. Don't find it unsettling, although now because of risk we won't buy a house until PR, just in case.

We have heard more of people in our line of work in UK made redundant than people in our line of work over here.

Yes - maybe its a risk, but for us not a financial one (but we would have to fund moving back ourselves)

For some people- those that don't qualify under SW, maybe LMO then PR is only route.

To the OP- sorry to hear. BUT I think you can stay on original LMO whislt wating for extensions

What an awful situation to be in. I really feel for you, it must be so stressful not knowing what's going to happen. I hope everything works itself out for you all, you never know your husbands company may need him for longer than 8 weeks or you may get another company interested in him.

Can you all not stay on your WP?

Whatever happens I wish you all the best of luck

2ndly and a big 2nd- please - those of you who are coming over on a temp visa, not PR, take and heed the warnings- the Canadian economy is taking a hit as well- don;t sell everything up in the UK, in case you have to go back. Its really not a nice feeling.

Thats really good advice shelley, we are definately not going to sell our house when we move. Heard a few horror stories and don't want to burn our bridges back here:eek:
