as BE members many of us I'm sure would like to be paid (or at least a brew) for the Pro Bono quality posts or information we provide to the 'wannabe immigrants', then again its the 'walk the path' .

Why do you seem soooo interested in what I do for a living??

It really is not that relevant to the topic of this thread.. Which again, was asking which area of Ontario would YOU, 'the reader' ideally like to live!

I did not ask others, Where should I move to?

Other very helpful posters seem to have 'got it', and simply stated areas they have seen, been, or would like to be..

I don't see how or why it has to turn into an inquisition on what I do, am I the breadwinner, my wife's nursing registration....

I fully fully fully understand how BE works. There can be an amazing resource of helpful people.
Suppose I need to learn it can be pot luck that they very helpful people see my threads...

4. Get HR to advertise and see who responds.
5. Get HR to advertise a second time and see who responds because we forgot we had told them to do it the first time.
6. Look at their resumes for companies we've heard of. Skill sets not necessary if it's a company we've heard of we may know someone who knows them.
7. Interview everyone 3 or 4 times over a two month period convenient to ourselves.
8. Offer the job to 3 or 4 people on the way to keep them excited and also frustrate them as they know we hold the cards.
9. Finally hire but when you do throw out an offer that is $10 to $20k below what the person asked for.
10. Sack off person because they are unhappy with our cheap negotiation tactic of lowballing them on what we told them the role paid at the beginning of the process. Perform same cheap tactic with the other 2 offers.
11. Sap has taken job but we've taken so long we actually realise we no longer need it filled we need something else now. Revert to point 1.

Yup. Good luck applying from the UK.
That process wasn't my experience at all. It really depends on the job and how desperate the employer is.

My first Canadian employer was desperately looking for a software engineer with experience of specific software development tools. He couldn't find anyone suitable despite looking for over a year. I moved from the UK to Toronto with my wife when she got a nursing job at Toronto General Hospital. I was young and naive. I thought that I could simply get a job and a work permit sorted during my free time while my wife was at work. I also got lucky because I had the specific skills this guy was looking for. He went to bat for me to get me a work permit sorted. That was in person but it can be done long distance if you have the right skills and the employer is desperate enough. I got my first job in the US via a long distance telephone interview. The work permit was sorted without me meeting anyone until my first day at work.

Ok there are a lot of people on here that know the areas they live in and the types of jobs that are more available so althougn they may suggest they would love to live on a tiny island that is only accesible by boat or ice road, it may not be the ideal place for someone that is a mechanic with a passion for building cars, so although it would possinlybe , ovely to live off the grid in the middle of nowhere, they will come to you with a more user friendly option. That is all they are getting at really, ylu have already had useful information as a by product of this thread saying that it is almost impossible for nurses to be recognised in Ontario, without jumping through really high hoops, which would be a concern if a second income was necessary. No one is expecting you to say exactly what you do but if you an oil field exec, your future would be a different destination than say a Porn Star. That's all.

Yeah I agree. If you are referring to employment opportunities.

We went on a holiday / recce to Alberta a few years ago. Obviously impressed by the Rockies! We spent time in Edmonton and a small town Leduc.

As you say, and in my humble opinion (no doubt be 'corrected' here by someone) the choices would be limited to Calgary and Edmonton.
Hence why Ontario is our main focus at the moment

Not so sure about the bolded bit, but yes that's the reason people asked.

Kaylawayla, come on give us a hint?

Just trying to help like the rest - no piss off yet

Maybe we can play the 'guessing game' - do you work for the police service, fire service, emergency service, unemployed or maybe a student?

What is the big deal you not simply telling us your profession, skills, occupation - because 'dollars for donuts' someone on here can relate or has been down 'your road' to whatever it is that you (the male spouse, not a nurse) would need some guidance (help) on in finding work?

As I posted up thread its all 'Po Bono' & we do not as BE members get anything out of it trying to help answer folks questions ... although, at times (as frustrating as it is for some of us) we get a lot of flack from folks like yourself

Ok. In hindsight. Maybe I should have asked the question / made the title of the thread :
"where in Ontario do you live, what is its good and bad points?.."

Maybe that would have made it clear I was aware Ontario is quite big.. and wasn't expecting anyone to tell me where I should go... Its only initial research. Bit of semi - serious window shopping in the very early stages of emigrating after receiving a PER.. Looking for a little heads up on where the 'good' areas / communities are hiding in this HUGE province!
Just the done thing is it not ?

Ive had "useful information about it being impossible for nurses to be recognised"..
Again, when and where did I ever refer to nursing in this thread??
WE KNOW how much of a joke nursing is.

Well this thread has obviously took a different direction than was intended. Shame.

Back to Google for us I suppose

I live where I do because thats where the job I was approached to do in Canada is.

That was initially the major selling point of the location. Most days its still a good point, some days its a bad point.

Now its home, Ive been here 16 years, my friends are here, my kids were born here, Ive put down roots. I like the area. Sure, Mountains and lakes and a real big ski hill would be nice if money where no object, but I like the pace of life and the community feel where I am, and I can deal with the winter and summer extremes. There's a ski hill (well, hill may be overgenerous, but its fun anyway) ten mins away, and I live with a beautiful river as my front view. There is stuff for me and the kids to do and If we want world class entertainment Toronto is a couple of hours drive away, which in Canada is a short trip.

The climate is OK, -30 to +30, but I dont think I would like much more of a winter. At this point though moving elsewhere would be a wrench for both me and my family. It takes years to replace the friends you leave behind when you emigrate, I dont really want to have to do it again.

Lol. Really mate?

Are we continuing with this 'game' ? Surely Saturday night telly isn't that bad that you just have to find out what I do for a living here in the UK?

Yes, it is. TV is appalling here. We stopped watching it 5 years ago and really dont miss it.

You dont seem the get the whole "help us to help you" thing. We can sing the virtues of where we live, but if you have no prospect of making a decent living there you will be adding a location to your short list that is just going to waste more of your time before you find out that its not going to work for you. My area, which is close to Picton that someone else commented on favourably earlier, is great if you have a decent wage, but there are not too many types of job where that is going to happen here. A good friend of mine, an experienced professional engineer, was offered a quality manager job, and when salary negotiations started he thought their offer of $20 an hour was a joke. Sadly they were not joking! In other locations he would be on 3 times that. Your happiness in a location and what you do for a living are likely going to be linked whether you like it or not.

Feel free to ignore this thread if this doesn't seem fun!

i.e. No need to p*ss on people's parades , it's the start of some very basic planning / researching. Cheers
before you go to google ....your post #100

Have you looked at or considered St John Newfoundland?

its confusing at times to figure out which of the pair of you is posting or whether it is just a game, if so, then we don't take you serious is my suggestion
