Well, its federal election day in canada. One of the downsides to PR is that you dont get to vote for real, but lets see what type of government a straw poll of current and future PRs gets us.

Well I couldn't vote as there wasn't a 'Don't know' box here

I really haven't followed Canadian politics enough to decide who's my cuppa tea

That would be the "no interest in canadian politics" box then I think!

Can't vote but I did distribute leaflets for the party of my choice (NDP).

You thinki Iain?

Ok, right you are then

I better start reading the papers....although what I miss from not having tv is debate programmes (the only I can think of is always with Mansbridge and a guest) Loved 'Question Time' with David Dimbleby.

That was a great programme - live as well. Some of the debates between panellists and questions from the public made it very lively and always relevant.

I knew it was pointless in terms of local issues, but NDP in the absence of anything else were whom I voted for. It would choke me to vote Tory and the U-turn Liberals disgust me.:lecture:

as an observer (since I'm only PR and can't vote) I found last night's results really interesting, but I did miss Jon Snow and his swingometer!

There will probably be a new election in 15 months time after they all realise that they cant pass anything in the house. By that time my citizenship should be through. Watch out Mr Martin.

I'm very keen on politics in general, and since I'll be moving to Canada very shortly, I've been following Canadian politics for a while now, on both the provincial and the federal level.
Although I am much more left-leaning than the Liberal party, I would have voted Liberal this time, because of the close race, so I wouldn't split the votes and cause the tories to come to power.
I can't wait until I'm citizen. I'm going to be an activist for sure.

I thought it was interesting how the vote split the country - from way over here, the east is seen as leftist and Liberal.

Alberta, not surprisingly, voted Conservative - it's one of the reasons I like this province

Not sure if I'm stirring the pot here - has anybody wondered why Canadians seem to prefer voting for retired people to run their country?

An airline pilot has to retire at 60 'because they are too old to fly a plane carrying 100-500 people' - even though most modern airliners fly themselves for the largest part of the trip.

Why then is a crooked 66 year old trusted to run a country of ~30,000,000 people? How can he possibly be in touch with the issues younger Canadians have, especially having been spoon fed in his early years.

At the end of his term (if he makes it all the way) - he'll be 70 - do we keep voting him in until he is 80 - running the country from his retirement home?
