bit of a worry for anyone with cash in icesave which inlcudes me!
we are now going to transfer at least the minimum proof of funds for immigration to canadian accounts immediatley
imagine how this sort of thing could affect PR if all your proof of funds is in an account that goes tittys up and it takes months to sort

Just yesterday the Daily Express had a page on the credit crunch and a list of recommended savings accounts to get you the best interest. Obviously news of Ice Save's demise hadn't been announced in the press at the time of printing as they were one of the ones they recommended!
I nearly put £10k with them a few months back (they were recommended as 'high interest savings account' on either Money Savings Expert or Money Supermarket (can't remember which - I always get those two confused) but my mum said I shouldn't risk it with a relatively unknown, foreign bank and should stick it with a long-standing, well-reputed bank, so I stuck it in the Alliance & Leicester.
Phew!!
Sorry to hear your money's now tied up in this nightmare, Chumley - surely it's not gone for good though? It's still your money, so if they get bought out can't you just get it back? That must be so frustrating for you, I really sympathise...

mine isnt all in icesave thankfully in fact its spread around 19 different places
im not one for putting all my eggs in one basket one egg in each basket is enough for me!!
im going to transfer from other banks to my canadian accounts and hope nobody else goes bust in the next few days
funds are making their way across the atlantic as we speak so fingers crossed by early next week shall have at least enough to satisfy immigration safely in to canada
blimey o'reilly as if there isnt enough to stress about 24 hours a day with immigration without us now having to stress about our funds going awol
could be 6 months or more before any of us can get dosh back from icesave

The UK Govt have announced today that they are underwriting all UK deposits in Icesave to the full amount even if in excess of the new £50,000 limit.
The UK Govt are also undertaking to repay the UK depositers directly and that they (Govt) will be suing the Icelandic authorities for eventual repayment.
That's all right then - the wife had a few thousand there!

Hi All
We nearly got caught by this as we had over 50K in Icesave but moved it only last week so we could exchange it in to Canadian $. If we had not moved it all we would not be able to close on our house on the agreed date which is only 2 weeks away and it would cost us big time.
Our concerns are for all the other people who were not as lucky as us, We do hope it all goes well for you all.
