Default ICBC trouble

August we went to get a new sticker for the car.
Somehow we lost the sticker before we put it on the car..

Went to ICBC and said this .. They said no problem we will issue you a new one.Just report it to the police as lost and fill out some stuff... But you have to wait a month for the next payment to come through .. Ok we said

So a month went by .. Rang them up .. Can we have our sticker please .. No problem they said, we shall pop it in the post now for you .. Waited a couple of weeks .. Rang them up , its on the way they said..
A couple more weeks went by .. Wheres our sticker ? Oh sorry there was a computer error , we never sent it .. but its on its way now..
Another 2 weeks went by .. Wheres our sticker .. Its on its way please wait we having some postal problems they said

Now 2 months gone by .. OK went into an ICBC place and explained it to them AGAIN...
Oh we soo sorry .. We will get it sent by recorded delivery .. As we will need you to sign for it at the other end .. Can you just give us one please .. nope cant do that , we have to send it to you and you have to sign for it ..
Ok so we wait ANOTHER 2 weeks ..
We now have a sticker thats 10 weeks out of date and police are forever following us , its not funny !!! Yes they can check we have insurance , but its not nice being following daily by the police...
So we ring ICBC again .. Oh you still havent got it .. We sooo sorry , but if you havent got it by friday come to an office and we will get you a new one issued ..
So we waited till friday , and are told sorry our policy is to wait 3 weeks for mail not 2 so cant issue you one ... bearing in mind we been waiting 11 weeks now
So we wait another week .. Wheres our &%$@# sticker now to them ..
Oh you havent got it .. We really sorry .. we will send it by courier to you .. We cant let you get one over the counter... Ok give them my work address as then there is always someone there , they say no problems....
4 days later no sticker .. We ring up ICBC AGAIN finaly get to speak to someone half intelligent .. He suggests just canceling our insurance policy and get a new 3 month one for a new sticker.. He says not to worry you cancel the policy and we will refund you the rest of the month...
So we did ... Cancelled the monthly payment with the bank . no worrys
We went and got our new policy and new sticker and for some strange reason it was even cheaper than what we usaly paid..

So now its been 13 weeks no stickers in the post nothing from couirer ...So that was some big lies from them

And then today 2 payments come out of our bank to pay for insurance !
So again we ring ICBC and ask what are they doing .. Oh thats cos you cancelled your policy you have to of paid 6 months of it before you cancel
We rang the bank .. How could you not of cancelled the payment . Oh we sorry it was an oversight ...

They promised us the money back but wont hold my breath as one month they took 3 payments out instead of one , and that took as a whole month to get back..

Soo anyway why did ICBC keep telling us constant lies ?? Why wouldnt they give us a new sticker ? Has anyone else ever lost there sticker ??

Sorry for the long post ... But this is very very very annoying and there seems to be nothing we can do about any of it

Your letting them play with you. Write to the head of the organization including all the info in your post. Tell them that your car has no insurance sticker initially because you lost it but now because of their incompetence. Tell them that in the event of you being fined or suffering any form of loss due to their inaction you will be looking to recover all your costs from them - send it recorded delivery.

I would also report them to the ombudsmen or whoever regulates them.

This is what happens when industry is state controlled and there is no competition.

i suspect that the next time you have a sticker, you will be less likely to lose it eh?

Certainly in the case of utilities, insurance, mail services, yes.

That is one crazy experience. I am amazed that you seemed to keep your cool, I think I would have completely flown off the handle at someone.

I find it hard to believe that after all you were going through, they were not able to provide you a sticker when you went into one of their offices.

I would do what Snowdude suggests, document everything in a letter and complain to the top man, see what happens.

All the best.

I feel for the OP. However, this is ICBC and, essentially, ICBC regulate ICBC. It is like swimming upstream in a river of treacle.

A letter is not a bad idea for COA purposes but ICBC will sort it out when it suits ICBC, and not a moment before.

This is what we have come across
We had a legal kinda chap look into it all for us .. About the only thing he said we could do was write a letter to the top... Which will likely achieve nothing .. But you never know.. Will say this whole thing has been one of the most frustrating things have ever had to do. Mainly cos we had no choice and not one thing we could do about it

And starting to think its us , you really dont want to know about our experiances with RBCs credit card and having a interact card which has now been cloned more times than dolly the sheep.

Have to agree. ICBC is an absolute shower. Proper competition would bring insurance levels down dramatically.

Loads of competition in US health insurance - but I doubt you would find any evidence of competence or efficiency as a result. Nice theory though.

There's competition in other provinces, and anecdotal evidence on this forum doesn't suggest premiums are any lower elsewhere.

I know this will not affect me, but just so I know what is ICBC?
