Aaaaahhhhh! Got an e-mail tonight from the employer saying he's checked references and would like to officially offer me the job!!!! He's going to phone me tomorrow afternoon to discuss the nitty gritty of getting there and how quickly I could start. Oh, I'm absolutely terrified now! It all seemed so surreal before, nice to be wanted, that sort of thing, but now???
Had the first of 3 removals companies over today to quote for shipping, spoke with a house rental agency who are going to take over care of the house and arranged the leaving do! (very important bit!)
I feel absolutely breathless at the speed it's all moving - we're aiming for the end of September as a leaving date, but depends on how soon CHC London get the passports back to us.

Congratulations!!!! We leave for Canada next month and I've had 2 telephone interviews for a job, both of which went very well. I'm going for a final interview when I arrive. It takes so much of the pressure of having a job lined up. Good luck with the job and all the best for your future life in Canada.
And, most importantly, enjoy that leaving do!!!

A big THANK YOU for all your replies - it's really heartening!!
So, onward to plough through the many things that have to be done - today's chores involve:
Cleaning house as out-laws arrive tomorrow for 5 days (planned months ago)
Print off Inland Revenue forms to let them know we're off!
Print off more IR forms for letting the house.
Tax return - the bit I'm really NOT looking forward to!!!
Go to letting agent with signed paperwork
Organise leaving do - venue booked last night
Guy from Anglo Pacific coming to do moving quote
And last, but not least:
Friend coming for dinner - got to think of something to make!!
Then sleep (or try to!) and get up tomorrow and do lots more of the same thing!!!

Congratulations on getting a job. Can I ask how you went about finding your job from the UK? Was it as simple as applying, explaining you were emigrating and hoping for the best - also what line of work is your new job in?
Thanks

The first time I was offered a job it was one I had found myself - I'm an Occupational Therapist and regularly logged on to the Canadian Association website to look at the job listings - I e-mailed my CV regularly to different employers and got a response. The offer was withdrawn after 4 months of them holding the position because the visa didn't come through in time.
However, I got an e-mail out of the blue from the director of the organisation asking me if I would be interested in working with them - he got my CV from one of the hospitals I'd previously sent it to, so it just proves that networking is the way to get a job in Canada and that it goes on behind your back too!!
