I can't get a job -Calgary
arrghhhhh!!!!!!
I am frustrated big time. I can't get a full time job. I worked in the UK as a construction professional and I can't even get an admin job. I have even taken additional training 'Alberta Building Safety Codes' and passed with flying colours. I have worked continuous for 25 years and never have been unemployed. I have looked at other areas in the industry but no luck as yet. I can believe that I have even been rejected for so many admin posts. I totally understand that employers are not going to take on someone with MSc because they may not stay with the company. I have look at every website going and no luck as yet. Is anyone else in the same position? Do you know where that I may try or even have a contact. ****I have even exhausted my CIOB contacts******. KJM:) |

Re: I can't get a job -Calgary
Hi KJM,
I work for WorleyParsons and they do a lot of recruiting through markstaffing (http://www.markstaffing.com/) so if you haven't tried them it's worth an email/quick call. Other than that, there is a construction company called Graham (http://www.graham.ca/) who I know are recruiting and they do a lot of varied work and are active in Calgary/Airdrie area. Also Kiewit (http://www.kiewit.com/) are advertising for new people although if you work for the 'Energy' branch you will likely find yourself on a campsite in Fort Mac. Finally, here is an engineering directory for Calgary, not 100% comprehensive but a damn good starting point.... http://www.mikelaing.com/ Best of luck! |

KJM you've got PM

Re: I can't get a job -Calgary
Like KJM I have applied for over 60 positions, and to date not a job in sight. I am more than happy just to do an admin type job as I am not expecting my type of profession within UK local govt to land on my doormat. I was in Policy & Improvement and ran the authorities voluntary sector programme.
I have tried every conceivable website including City of Calgary, all the major recruitment firms, even Walmart!!! Where are we Brits going wrong? I have even hand delivered my resume to all the businesses in my local area. Am going quietly bonkers being stuck indoors - only so much dusting a girl can do in a week. :curse: |

........I dunno, feel free to pop round to my place!! :) |
Re: I can't get a job -Calgary
I have found the admin field almost prohibitive to get into - mind you I'm only looking for part time and seeing as I have a job, I only look sometimes, usually when I'm piffed off with blinking stoopid customers and annoying teenaged management:eek::rofl:
I hope all those looking find something soon, temping might be the way to go? |
Re: I can't get a job -Calgary
