SKIPED A FEW PAGES.... but to the topic at the start...
We are heading out in the next couple of months, I own my own business and Hubby is a manager...2 years ago we sold our house and made the amount that we spent on our house in profit!!!!! the house prices in our area have jumped 10 fold.....
We can`t afford to buy the 3 bedroom house for the family in our area... :scared:
If and when we get out to Canada to live, we have looked at the cost of living, yes we understand it`s going to be hard for the first year even 2 years, but to have our 3 or even 4 bedroom house (maybe with pool), two kids that grow up and are not left behind in education, pay for them to go to higher education.... oh and only have 2 weeks of holidays....I can live with....
To live with a bigger house and car and great weather (sun as well as snow) wild animals that we don`t have in the UK, new experiences of living in a new country, I would rather work to live there, than in the UK.....
So yes we would take a pay cut as long as I can eat beans on toast still at the end of the week....

pay cut was 0% - UK Wage $250k(cdn) and when I first arrived the first contract I got was the same pay...2nd contract is more in-line with Canadian contractors wages of about $100k(cdn). Imho I would say this wage is kind of equivalent of earning 50k(quid) and living in the south of England - average-good kind of lifestyle.

Many thanks for all the replies and support.
I turned down the offer at 60k, after having researched costs. Pretty sure I did the right thing.

Did you tell them why or make a counter offer?

Hubby got a pay increase, and has just been offered a job for $11.00 per hour more than what he is getting
Shame the work permit ties him up - Hey Ho!

If they need to fill the position, odds are that they will up the offer.
