Default How long does a shipping container take?

How long does a shipping container take from the UK to Toronto. The shipping company have said it takes 2 weeks but that doesn't seem very long to me.

Furniture going on Aug 3 and we are moving in on Sept 1 but have been told we will have to pay for it to sit in Toronto port.

Also can I bring my hose pipe or are they different out there?

Hi, 2 weeks does sound quite a short time. We've had quotes from 3 different companies who've estimated anything from 4-6 weeks. We're going to Edmonton though, not Toronto, but I wouldn't imagine it'd make a huge amount of difference.

Not sure about the hosepipe thing....I'd suggest you're probably best leaving it here given that you're apparently supposed to give all garden stuff a right good clean - not sure how you'd clean a hosepipe properly.....

hth!

If it's dual voltage, you'll be fine.

Nope, seems to work perfectly in both hot and cold weather. Admittedly though, it takes a bit longer to work in the colder weather, nothing that a bit of manual manipulation can't sort out though.

It would depend if the shipping company are shipping more than one person's stuff in the container. If it is a full container of just your stuff it would get across quite quick. My stuff was only 20 boxes, so was just a part of the consignment, and took 2 months to reach me. This was because the container was hanging around in the UK for a month or more waiting for others to fill it out. Once it left Liverpool it got to Ontario very quickly (I think less than a week at sea), then I had to wait for it to be transported to Vancouver. Not that I minded the long wait, I took everything I needed straight away with me.

ROFLMAO

sitting here drinking my Morroccan Chicken Soup and spit it all over the keyboard

thought it was the frequency you should check on hoespipes and not the voltage,

also check of 2 pin or 3 pin plug attached

Our shipment was part-container, so we were told 8-12 weeks total (as it could be a few weeks before they get it into a container). However, it must have gotten in right away, because when I checked the tracker, it's only going to take 4 weeks! Which meant a mad scramble to find a place to live!

2 weeks seems pretty quick - I thought the ocean crossing was about 3 weeks, and then I'm told it can sit in customs for between 3 - 14 days.

Our shipping container (we had sole use of one) took just 11 days to reach Calgary from Portsmouth. We gave them the go ahead to ship a few days before we flew then it sat in storage in Calgary for a few weeks until we were in our house and ready to take possession.

Depends if they send it to the opposite side of the country Wales to Felixstowe before heading off for an 11 day Continental break in Antwerp!

Hi
We moved across here in Dec last year and out stuff arrived after 3 weeks, from UK to Edmonton.
Before leaving the UK I rang the removal company to ask how long the delivery would take and after an explanation about winds!! they said it would be about 4-6 weeks. My husbands employers were organising rental on a house for us in Edmonton and so we advised them to rent until the second week in January, our stuff left us on December 5th. It left the UK a week later. The rental house here was costing us $1000 a week.
Our belongings then arrived at Edmonton just before Christmas and I had to clear customs between Christmas and New Year. They held onto our stuff for a week then would charge us $660 one off fee and $370 a month storage. We decided to find some where to rent and now have extortionate rent to pay for a year as trying to find some where to rent this time of year was difficult. Our stuff was delivered on January 4th so we overlapped rentals by 2 weeks, which was money we could ill afford to give away.
So I would say delivery is more likely to be 3-4 weeks from my experience.

Good luck with the move though

Mine took about 3 weeks. It sat in the docks a few day before the ship sailed.

The actual voyage was only about 10 days, but you also have to allow time for it to clear customs.

Once it clears you then have to wait for to finally be delivered.

So you could easily be talking about a month before you get your hands on your property.
