Default How long for atlantic crossing?

Can anyone tell me how long it took for their container to come from UK. Mine is on its way at the moment having left UK on 2nd September. I am having a nightmare with my removal company at moment and cannot get any information from them. I am a little concerned about all the hurricanes around. I was sure I remembered someone saying about 14-16 days crossing but I was advised 6 - 8 weeks when I called them yesterday.

Your experiences on this would be appreciated. When did you hear from the removal company on this side? When did you have an approximate date for delivery? Should I have been advised by now? Every step of the way we have been disappointed with our removal company so I am just waiting for the next thing to go wrong.

Hi there,

our container left Le Havre on the 5th August and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the 15th. We were informed of this by our removal guys here on the 15th, and customs sign off was done next day, with the container delivered to the house 2 days later.

Very happy with the removal companies in both France and NS.

Wow that was quick. I can't quite understand why I have been told 6 - 8 weeks.

Probably depends on when the ship is leaving and what other ports that it is going to before it reaches your destination.

Hi

We came from Ireland and our shipment had to go via Rotterdam (ie in the wrong direction to start with) before crossing the Atlantic. We were advised 4 - 6 weeks, including customs clearance.

In the end our stuff arrived, cleared customs etc in under 4 weeks and we had to pay extra for them to store it for a few days as we weren't in our house!!

A lot depends I think on customs, as they 'allow' 7 - 14 days for your shipment to clear customs. However, our company got it through in a day or so.

Hopefully your shipping company should be able to tell you what stage your shipment is at if you were to contact them.

Our container left our home in the UK (via Liverpool) on the 15th August and arrived in Vancouver 3 weeks and 2 days later.

Don't worry about weather. Container ships generally keep to their schedules come what may! Depending on where how your shipment is routed, sea crossing time could be 10-14 days. Dunno where you are going in Canada but add potentially rail / road and of course customs clearance on top of that and 4-6 weeks is a good assumption. Customs is the unknown, it could be a matter of seconds for electronic clearance or full turnout and inspection.
