Some fantastic posts here and I don't think I can offer anything fresh. I am in the same position but managed to get enough points for PR so I did not have to have a job.

I am at the other end of the career cyce worked in support, training, software development for a good 15 years until I became a team leader of developers. I have since progressed into management of teams and then a whole department.

My plan is to look at middle-management jobs of any sector I have experinace in. I have started networking via facebook and any business contacts I have in the UK, but it is hard.

I think this forum is essential and I have gained so much knowledge which is hidden from people not part of canadian culture.

Just one piece of advice. Don't undersell yourself too much. Be selective on the positions you go for. There are positions out there that require someone with lots of experience that you would probably be perfect for.

I am currently a Software Architect with almost 15 years industry experience. I applied for several senior developer positions thinking I would need to take a few steps back on the career ladder to move to Canada. The team lead and architect positions are the ones I had most joy with.

First, thanks to all replies on this thread.

Canadian_bacon_boy - what do you mean by enough points for PR ?
Is this something to do with Federal Skilled Worker ?

Any info welcome.

Skilled worker is one route to Permanent Resident (PR) status

There are a couple of ways that FSW works, as explained in the wiki or the cic webpage.

Do you have to get a job offer? If you have a wife/partner then how about the study permit route, or alternatively if you are prepared to go anywhere in Canada then the Community Identified Stream in NS? Neither require a job offer and both result in PR.

Good luck!
