hiya,
says it all in the title really but the uk has ground to a halt so was wondering how canada copes as you get much, much more snow than us? thanks in advance esther x In addition, Canadians themselves are just used to it and therefore more preaperd on an individual level. They have the necessary clothing and footwear already. They have snow shovels. They know to stock up on salt. They have brushes and ice scapers in their cars. They have facilities that provide recreation in the winter e.g. ice skating, skiing, snow boarding, tubing, etc. |

I do think most Brits would wan to pay an extra £500+ to have load of snow removal equipment that would only be used for a few days a year.
I have also now changed my tyres on my car for all seasons( Mud & Snow), as before my car would not get up the steep hill to my house. I am changing my wife car to all season tomorrow as it has sports tyre on a 4X4 and has zero grip in the snow. I have two Canadian Tire shovels which have been useful for clearing our hill down to the main road the road. hudd Are serious when you say that you say that most Brits would happily pay £5oo+ for snow removal. I don't think so. When springtime arrives and we are all given a bill bill by our local council for that amount of money I can only imagine the outrage that will cause. Regards Derren |

we just get on with it!! Keep a bag of kitty litter for traction issues and a shovel, emergency kit in car...snow plows out in force usually on main roads pretty quick...

Even though they may claim otherwise, all-season tires are not ideally designed to grip in cold weather or snow, you'd be better off spending your money on dedicated winter tires. The compound and tread in snow tires are very different from all seasons.
I have purchased tyres from Germany which have the high Silica contents as winter tyres I used to have in Canada. The tyres meet German winter tyre requirements. hudd http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p...10&sowigan=GAN |

Regards Derren I meant would not want to pay £500 extra for snow removal. I pay £1800/yr council tax in Kent where as in Ontario I would expect to be close to $5000/yr property taxes. $5000K = £3125 with today's exchange rate. If you want Canadian infrastructure for snow removal, "ya gona have to pay your money" as a Canadian friend of mine used to say. Regards Hudd |

Be safe and buy winter tires and pack a car shovel along.

I recommend a visit to Canada in February. Unless you choose BC! I'm freezing cold and tired of it! |

it's not a matter of whether we can cope with the snow; it's a matter of whether YOU can cope with it. In my city, we have snow on the ground permanently for FOUR MONTHS. Snow doesn't fall prettily and then have the decency to GO AWAY in Canada. It stays and stays and stays. By the way: it has to be pretty darned warm for it to snow in the first place. So it only really snows when it gets warm(ish) and then the deep freeze returns and the stuff doesn't melt until April.

Re: how does canada cope with the snow?
Here in Montreal we have 2500 pieces of snow removal devices from sidewalk plows, street plows to graders and the blowers, they only start the motors on these devices after 5cm of snow is on the ground,
If you are living anywhere in Canada its advisable to buy dedicated snow tires for the winter as all seasons aren't really designed to handle heavy snow and their rubber compounds are useless in temps below -7C A Google search on "Winter tires vs All season tires" will definitely educate anyone on the inadequacies of all season tires in the dregs of a Canadian winter. Actually here in Quebec snow tires are mandatory between Dec,15 and April 1 |
