Has anyone brought a musical instrument ? Please can you share your wisdom !

I have a full size violin in a soft case.

You may be able to take it onboard with you but, in any event, I would purchase a hard case for it.

Google is your friend. There's quite an informative blog post here https://www.3d-varius.com/take-plane-violin/. It relates specifically to electric instruments made of composite material but most of the advice would apply equally to a traditional wooden violin.

TL;DR - loosen the strings, pack it in a hard case, take it in the cabin.
