I get Setanta for the footie but there's a total lack of reviewing incidents. Match of the day is good for that and for me that's 6.30 on a Saturday evening...afternoon for others.
I have seen a few Doctor Whos live on Saturday afternoons.
For the world cup it would be nice to get some 'home based' chatty stuff to supplement the coverage we'll get here and that would be daytime/early evening.
I'd like to see things like Comic Relief nights too. Time difference needn't be a real problem for much of that, even out west.
It's also been great to see the rugby internationals live and those times wouldn't be too bad.
I saw some really good live coverage of Glastonbury last year as well.

I like watching the live broadcasts when I'm at work, the time difference is only 4/5hrs. I get to watch Eastenders (for e.g.) before going home.
When XFactor is on, we get to watch it at around 4pm. This means that we can spend weekend evenings doing other things or go out - plus we don't have to avoid the British online newspapers like a plague so we don't know who got eliminated.

It's not free, but if you want a reliable way to watch UK TV (BBC iPlayer etc), I use http://strongvpn.com/ for a VPN connection. It's really straight forward, you don't need any additional software (VPN connectivity is built into Windows / Mac OS X), and you get the optional to tunnel to several different cities so you can also use USA only services like Hulu.

I used a proxying site last year called identitycloaker and it seemed to work well, the bandwidth was adequate for iplayer and the proxy rarely went down. Although when it did there was always a selection of about half a dozen UK based servers to coose from, as well as US and european servers as well.
Did cost though, IIRC it was about $40 CAD per quarter.

The thing I find with Proxy stuff etc is that Bell etc throttle right back so the download speeds are pathetic. Also they are intro the 3 strikes and you are out rule, so even though I have a changing ISP I decided not to run the risk any more, esp as hubby needs the internet for his business.
I can listen to iplayer but cannot watch it due to the Beeb having an international copyright issue. Which they say they are hoping to solve - mind you they have been saying that for 2 years now.
What I would like is a nice legal way of getting uk tv. Hubby's business is too high profile for the risk of anything under the table. I would be happy to pay for this on a user licence as well.

surfthechannel.com is a British website with a generally comprehensive selection of programs, although you tend to end up watching most things through MegaVideo.

Download VLC Player from here ---> http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
download the uk playlist from here ----->
http://www.multiupload.com/CFLNB9UGF5
password to unzip the playlist is myp2p
Now open your VLC player
Go to View and view playlist
Another box will open - just drag the playlist you downloaded into it and pick what channel you want to watch and it will start playing in the vlc player.
I find if I'm in a hotel with a not so good internet connection i use the low quality channels but at home with a good connection high quality is fine
Channels include BBC 1 -2-3 cbbc and E4 Channel 4 -5 ITV 1-2 &3 amongst others

I'm not sure how it works to be honest but it certainly does the job
If you find it stutters a bit shut down any background programmes that are running and that will help - Torrent clients open are a big drain on the resources as well as sites like skysports etc that are always updating themselves

There is no need to pay for anything when it comes to watching Iplayer. all you need to do is download firefox. After installing it, go to tools, options, advanced, settings and put in a new IP address and port number which can be found here for free http://www.hidemyass.com/proxy-list/...w-planetlab/0/
Then reboot firefox, go to the Iplayer page and click on the programme you want, you may need to update adobe flash player, if firefox wont install it, there are instructions on there on how to do it.
Once the flash player is installed, Iplayer will run.
Make sure you keep the proxy page in your favourates, you may have to change it on a daily basis.
Any problems with it, just send me a PM and I will see if I can help you sort it out
