Hover mowers - do they exist in Ontario?
#1
We had an electric hover mower in the UK and loved it. When we moved to Ontario, we bought one of those heavy, gas-guzzling mowers, and while it does the job, it's a PITA. Our lot has some silly grading that makes a heavy mower awkward, but it looks like not only do they not sell hover mowers here, no one's even heard of them (and look at us like we're nuts, before saying "That's actually a really good idea, but nope").
Anyone know any different?

I've never seen them here. Canadians like manly, noisy, polluting equipment, not things that look like wimpy toys, lol.

They have been around for many years but were never very popular. They were called Flymo I believe. I think Noma markets one, or they did, but I don't know where you could get one.

I am astonished that these do not appear to be marketed here. Around us there are many steep slopes and small gardens which would be ideal for a Flymo. Also the mulch left on the lawn is great for water conservation too. We brought lots of UK electrical appliances with us along with a large transformer which has saved us lots of money in replacemenst. Just finished the patio and deck with my 240v pressure washer.

Our Black & Decker Lawn Hog electric mulching mower has served us well for 9 years and still going strong.
Sure, the cable gets in the way occasionally and the blade needs replacing every couple of years, but for a small to average size yard it works well.
Every year I see neighbours tinkering with their gas mowers trying to get them working, whereas I just plug in and go.
I haven't seen any of those real small 'Flymo' type mowers though and definitely stay away from those cordless rechargeable electric ones.

If your yard is not too big you can use a reel lawn mower. They are inexpensive, ecologically sound and give you a moderate work-out too.

Roller driven and hover mowers tend to be available only at the expensive commercial/professional end of the supply chain. The kind of stuff golf courses buy. Eastman make roller/ reel mowers and hover mowers, Toro do roller mowers if not Flymo types. Allen are a popular choice for hover mowers. Atcos and Suffolk Punches are virtually unheard of.
Husqvara dealer might be a good bet too, $600.

I bought a classic old 80's Flymo hover mower from Kijiji in Calgary. You can still source a new cutting blade online or just take it off and get it sharpened. They ARE out there if you look.

The problem with the Husqvarna is that it just uses strimmer line instead of a blader, which is not very convenient and also it is petrol driven and expensive.
This one recommended by another user is esxactrly what i am looking for and is cheaper too. Thank you.

Having just bought a house in NY I wnet to Sears to by a lawnmower. They'd never even heard of a hover mower. Eventually I found some online - 600 or 800 bucks! They are specialist items here. Look at Amazon UK and you can pick up a bundle under 100 pounds. Very disappointing.
