I'll have you know, we don't get fog up here on the north shore.

I dunno, but a bit of research might have helped back then.

No! That's the bloody problem....over here in the Atlantic Provinces, it rains....as in like bloody stair rods, then it snows...but it is in plough's full, and then the sun comes out and shines on everyone... but it does the FULL shining thing! You are collapsing! Then you check the weather page and you get a smiley face showing you what beautiful weather you are missing, if you aren't living there...but it IS lies. The weather on line is not what is in your back garden! There is NOTHING in moderation here...we are full throttle on everything!

@Millie

I find the weather network is fairly reliable. It's not as accurate as it used to be but still streets ahead of the radio that seems to exaggerate what's expected.

I shop for 'essentials' according to TWN's snow forecast.

Try using this one MillieF - I have the Hamilton equivalent and find it very accurate - it even has real time warnings of bad weather.

For anyone else, there are links to different areas in Canada on this website: http://www.ontario-weather.net/wxlinks.php

My additional tip:

Go to North-West France for July & August.

A beautiful day today, a perfect 24C and set that way for a month.

Sounds like Vancouver mate. Apart from last weekend where it was possessively Ontarioesque. Was in Richmond today, sky was so blue and clear and a lovely breeze off the Pacific and 22c.

Another good weather place is intellecast.com Give it a try.

Thank you I shall give the other weather sites a shot. I think it's just the huge 'extremes' that get a bit tiring, we never seem to have just a 'pleasant' day.

I used to have a portable AC and it worked well, it dropped the temperature in our bedroom most effectively. The humidity is a bore, and the dehumidifier is a wonderful thing, I'd never had one before but would hate life without one now.

I know last September was a bit crappy, weather-wise, but it's usually the month of sunshine, low/mid-20's temperatures, no humidity and no bugs.

I must have given the wrong link. You do have to install it and customize it to your location. It gives all sorts of good info, especially for pilots. I can't seem to get a screenshot of my page but it is one of the better websites.

Try this and you will see what I mean.

If you paste that into your browser the correct page should come up. At least the one for my QTH which is Truro, NS

Give it a whirl. I just used the link and it took me to my page.

Yes, it was strange as it just gave me a heap of other links.

Thanks for the one you gave now, I was able to view it and customise it for Hamilton too - no download required (I just saved the link).

I'm wondering, what are the options to cool the room down - I'm wondering about an air con unit, but will that be costly? We can't move to the basement permanently because we're about to invest in a new bed and for the price I want to sleep on it, not on the spare bed downstairs!
Also, when we moved in we were told it had just been newly insulated, and my understanding was a well-insulated house should be cool in summer and warm in winter... Was never sure how that worked, but I'm now wondering if its a trade off and to save heating in winter you have to cook in the summer. We're just renting just now so I'd like to know more about how this works before we buy/build in the future!

I forgot to mention that some furnaces can run the fan without the heat being switched ln so, kf your furnace is in the basement you can circulate that cold air.

I've tried that Bats... but at 30 degrees inside and the kids constantly opening and not closing the doors, its not really worth it!! To get any relief with the cold air fan, you have got to close all windows and doors, keep out sunlight and after 6 hours it might go down about 1.5 - 2 degrees! Its easier just to move downstairs altogether and put in a summer kitchen down there :)
