although its been reported locally that prices have seen slight rises in the last few months, i have not seen it that way in advertised prices. houses do seem to be selling a lot quicker than they were last year, back to around 1 month i would say on average, and i have noticed the ones on for a long time have now all sold in my neighborhood.

Ottawa house prices supposedly hit a record high in September. In my neighbourhood (Westboro) anything decent up to $600k seems to be selling quickly and a good percentage of the buyers launch quickly into an extensive reno/extension. Confidence must come from the general feeling that 'this is Ottawa, prices can't go down.' Time will tell.

How about Newfoundland, house prices rise 2008 was 25.9%, currently rising at 20.15% 2009, no sign of it slowing down either?

Although we do live in a community that appeared to have voted in a 19 year old University student as Mayor (by 3 votes) only for the recount to be a tie and the issue decided by drawing lots. (the incumbent won). One does wonder what that kind of shennanigans will do to property prices......
