We are off to Canada for a wee holiday late September. Can anyone recommend a hotel in Toronto for the first few nights... we will be picking up a car at the airport so open to any suggestions.

The Westin Harbour Castle on the lakefront is very nice. You can park your car at one of the parking lots within a couple of hundred yards from hotel.
If you book the hotel with Canadian Affair it is quite a reasonable rate.
The only downside is that it is a little bit away from the centre of downtown but is only 5-10 min walk to Union station.
We did a bit of a tour when out there, taking in Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal and Niagra so any more info you need I will try to help

I can recommend the Cambridge Suites Hotel which is located right in the middle of town, walking distance from the main shopping areas, lakefront, CN Tower etc.

We stayed there for several nights last year and had excellent service, lovely room, or should I say suite - separate living area. It was very nice.

B&B (with no breakfast) wev'e used a lot if you want to keep costs down is the Casa Loma. Bedrooms and shared bathroom if I recall. 10 mins walk to tube, cafe across the road for breakfast.

The Days Inn was good. We found it to be the most reasonable and its right in the centre of Downtown.

As above, can also recommend the Days Inn, very central, good rates, close to subway etc.

It's on Carlton Street, you may wish to check parking 'though, unsure if the Hotel has it's own, from memory there was a public car park at the end of the street in any case - almost opposite the hotel.

I have stayed there before and they have their own parking deck. Also down the street from them is the Best Western Primrose Inn which is a nice place with their own parking. We had our wedding there. :-)

Beware, the Primrose is an overspill residence for the U of T. It can get loud.

That must have happened since 2001 when we got married as it was very quiet at that point. Of course this was in mid-August when school wasn't in session either.

Yes, perhaps since 2001. One of my daughters had a boyfriend who lived there, she was in high school and we teased her that she only wanted him for his proximity to the school. I guess that must have been the school year 2002/2003.
