I am looking to book a hostel today for next week, i have never stayed in a hostel before. There is two in halifax, one which is called backpackers on gottington street and the other on barrington street which is called heritage house.
I have read mixed reviews on both, the main bad review of backpackers which concerns me is it is in a run down location,is gottington street really that bad ?.
I did live in halifax for 2 years but never really went down that area.
If anyone has stayed in any of these hostels can you give me your review of them or if anyone knows the areas that they are in.
I will only be booking one night at first so i wont lose my money if i dont like either of them.
I will also be landing at midnight which sucks.

The HI hostel on Barrington is pretty good. I stayed there for 2 months and had no complaints. The rooms are nice and it has a good sized kitchen and it was never that busy when i was there.
The other hostel looked a bit rubbish when i was looking.

I havent been to either hostel, but the area of Gottington Street is not great, hence why I would stay clear, especially if someone here has confirmed that the other one is ok

yes understand what your saying, the reason why i think i may go for the gottington street one is because it has free parking available and its cheaper overall, also the reviews of the place and staff are better, its just the area that lets it down,i will book one night when i arrive and will move to the other one if i dont like it i think

My son has just started college just off Gottingen St. They have been told by the police to only go in two's and three's and not at night. Somebody was atttacked very recently coming out of an address and robbed at knifepoint.I drive through regularly and the police are always dealing with something in that area.
