I am named on my hubby's TWP and I know I can't attend a uni/college without a Study permit, but what about studying at home... I can't seem to find anything on here and before I attempt to speak to a human being at Service Canada I wanted to see if any of you know.
I want my son to go to pre-school, and as foreigners we're not eligable unless we study... so basically I'll study something at home in order to get financial help and send him to pre school.

Don't know about Calgary, but certainly with the pre-school for my 2 here in NS, they are privately run and therefore charge. There is no 'financial' help. You pay or they don't go. I too am on a visitor's visa (Hubby has the twp) and I am not allowed to work or study.
Sorry phat-dave, can't help you with your question!

no dramas, thanks guys.
I'll be travelling on a 2yr working holiday visa but intended on continuing my studies via the internet with my university back home.

Thanks guys - Alberta offers child care subsidy to Canadian citizens/permanent resident's depending on salary. It also offers this to temporary permit holders if they can prove they will be here for a while and they have a valid reason to need it... ie one parent works and one parent studies.
The only thing about studying in a foreign establishment is that I planned to do accounting/bookkeeping and I'm not sure that the lessons would be the same for Canada as the UK. I'll have to check - if theyre the same then I'll take that route, otherwise I'll have to get my own study permit... though that's hassle and I don't want to take that route.
