Anyone used Home Depot to fit their bathroom or kitchen, for example?
(I'm Calgary area) Received a delightful little pamphlet in the amongst junk mail highlighting all the services they offer - and of course, I believe, I believe ;) It would be fair to say that I would not have opted for B&Q in the UK for installation of the above for a variety of reasons - and one reason being I knew where else to look for these supplies and services (and better quality?), and I knew all kinds of tradespeople to help us out. I'm starting afresh here, know no-one in any trade - and with the shortage of good tradespeople and much sucking of teeth if you ask, I'm getting desparate for a new en-suite bathroom that doesn't cost me the $25k that I was quoted last week. And hubby has neither the skill, time, nor inclination to do much apart from change the odd light fitting at the moment. I'm more capable on the DIY front, if I'm honest - tiled our last four bathrooms and kitchen - but once we rip out the current suite, half the room will come down with it and I just can't do all that on my own ! Any showrooms around the City? - I went hunting for a few via the phonebook, but some had changed, some did not exist anymore, and I couldn't find one at all. Anyone recommend a man-that-can ? ( or woman ?) |

If you do get as far as getting a quote with Home Depot can you let me know how it comes in? We really need to do something about all our bathrooms - starting with the en-suite, those tiles are just something else, let alone the yellow sink and beige toilet:eek:

Yep it is the real tile colour with a dark wood panelled ceiling with dark brown mosaic tiles on the floor. The bathroom in the basement has very dark brown subway tiles in the cubicle hmmmm |

You don't need a contractor to change a toilet. It's really very, very easy.

We have 3 bathrooms all in the same lovely condition, the en-suite and main are right next to each other and they are all very small but we do have some cupboards that maybe better off as bathroom space - but I don't know if I can cope with that much hassle. I just want a dreamy en-suite with a huge wow factor - it's little more than a cupboard really.

HI there...
Don't know anything about Home Depot but you could also try and find a contractor/builder through the Better Business Bureau. They send out a directory every year (The BBB Pages) OR I think you can look up people online www.betterbusinessbureau.ca - Might be useful if you have any concerns over 'cowboys' - partic in these parts!!!!! We've been trying to find a decent builder for months so if you get anyone good do pls pass the name on!!!! Lisa |

If there are two more useful words in a man's vocabulary, I have yet to find them. In a similar fashion "yes dear". For me it becomes an automatic response. Similar to 'that can be dangerous' as an auto-response to Mrs AX's 'I've been thinking." |

Hmmmm - every word from my previous post has been written from experience. For example we renovated our kitchen in the UK - we started knocking down walls in July - hubby promised me it would be ready for crimbo so we could have people for crimbo rather than having to drive all over the country visiting rellies. In November we got a man in to finish the plastering and put the cabinets up and put the work top on. 2 Days before crimbo we boarded a flight to Florida (I didn't want to drive all over the country visiting rellies). We eventually got the tiles up and grouting done and painting done for the house to go on the market in Feb - he flew out here to start work end of march. Kitchen and living room still needed skirting boards and new floors when we sold the place. So forgive me my wifely comments if I don't want my en-suite to take 8 months to do (especially as he thinks we should do 2 bathrooms at once:eek:). I am actually very patient, hence why we have so many cars in various states of repair. When we moved in this house last May, hubby promised that the en-suite would be done that winter. At least one bathroom will be done this winter - even if it is a tradesman that comes to do the stuff I can't - i.e. plumbing and knocking down walls and lighting - i'll do the rest. Let me remind you how bad it is.........No No I can't subject you all to that hideous sight again:p |
Re: Home Depot - Installation Services
Thanks for all the replies folks - especially the relevant ones :p
It can do no harm in getting some ideas and a quote, at least. I'll let you know how I get on and what my impressions are in due course !! |
Re: Home Depot - Installation Services
Piff Poff - you carry on ! A girl needs a decent shower/bathroom - in less than 8 months preferably - they one guy who came round to ours said 5 weeks all in - that already sounded a lot to me !
