Default holiday travel insurance

We're taking a trip in January next year, and the next thing on my list to organise is travel insurance. It's a bit pricier than I remember it being from the UK!
I have a quote from the travel agent we're booked with, and I did some searches online and got quotes in the $300 area for all-inclusive (travel in January=trip cancellation needed, travel to the US=medical needed). However, i tried using a price comparison site (first one I've found since moving here) and discovered that if we get medical from one company and trip cancellation from another, it works out cheaper. Is there any reason not to do this?

Before you ask, I couldn't put it on a credit card because
a/. our card doesn't provide cover
b/. we had to book quickly to get a deal (no time to apply for a different card)
c/. the holiday costs more than the limit on my card!

Can anyone recommend any companies to try? And is splitting the insurance worth doing?

Call an insurance broker.

I'm too used to being able to go everything online lol. I'll have a look for a broker, and in the meantime I do have one provider online which looks reasonable - $166 all inclusive...

Looks about right for an annual family policy. If this is short term or indivudual, a broker should save you some money.

Yeah that's a policy for one trip, two of us. I think a call to a broker might be in order then! Thanks
