Holiday and interviews??
#1
Hi All
Myself, Hubby and kids are planning on going out for a holiday to Vancouver next April. Would it be a good idea to get some job interviews into the process too. How would you go about it ie. apply from over here first or wait till the holiday and look in local papers etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My hubbys trade is on NOC list.
Cheers

I did the same last year and managed to set up a few interviews in Toronto and Montreal before I headed out there for a holiday. The easiet way to get your foot in the door is to make your cover letter as informal as possible. Say that you're on holiday, would like to drop by and have a chat, because your thinking of relocating. Say that you're researching the business in Canada etc etc. This makes it more likely you'll get to talk to somebody as it commits the employer to nothing and they will probably just meet you out of courtesy. Sending out letters begging for a job will not get you many replies.
In the end nothing came of those interviews for me, I'm now applying for my work permit for a position in BC, however they did provide me with invaluable contacts for possible future work. Companies will always remember 'that really nice guy' who popped in for a coffee and chat during his holiday in Canada, as opposed to the desparate job seeker.

Hi orange247 and folks we tried your approach in the toronto area in the summer of 2005,after we decided we would like to move there for a change of lifestyle, yes the people in canada are lovely and i was politley recieved some companies took my resume, others spoke to me and were interested but nothing has materialised a year later .I would suggest you look at world wide web not canada dot com then form your own opinions, mean while we are still trying to approach companies for a sponsoreship which is the safe way to go,my wife and i feel if you have any comments or suggestions email me [email protected]
