holiday entitlement annual leave HELP
HELP
I read that 2 wks is normal for annual leave in Canada however after asking a company directly in CA they say its normally 4 weeks for my job as a social worker. My husband is in I.T networking, 4 yrs experience and I wonder how much I.T people get on average - does anyone know ?? thanks if you reply !!

Two weeks in the minimum. Like everything, it can be negotiated. It just depends on how much the employer wants you and your skill set.

There are loads of threads on this with lots of opinions. If you go to the search function 'advanced' put in 'annual leave' and select Canada, there are pages and pages of info.

Re: holiday entitlement annual leave HELP
On the other hand Oz is a very very long way from the UK, and hellishly expensive to buy flights for a family visit, if returning to the UK every few years is a factor.
I now get three weeks holiday, plus the 10 or 11 bank (stat) holidays.
I like my life and job here, and dont feel stressed out, so I dont feel the need to escape for weeks at a time. It is what it is, although attitudes seem to slowly be changing and more vacation in some fields is starting to trickle down into others.
As long as you know about it in advance, then you can decide how big a deal it will be in the long term.
If you arent stuck in trafic for hours or slave to a huge mortgage, working 50 hours a week, then there is plenty of time for family.
By the way Sammy, if you look on the left hand side of your keyboard, there is a key that says "Caps Lock" PLEASE HIT IT. Or else just STOP SHOUTING

I also depends on any unions involved, as employers cannot always "negotiate" vacation time, it is usually set out in collective agreements

Re: holiday entitlement annual leave HELP
You could always use the option to take unpaid leave as I did this over the summer when the children were younger to have that extra 2 weeks or just negotiate your entitlement at internview.
Guess you just have to look at what priorities you want from life and weigh up what is most important more hols or a better opportunities for your children.

A: It sets a precedent, if they do it for you, they have to do it for everyone else
B: There are costs associated with you not being there, loss of productivity, or hiring a temp, or doing more overtime to cover for your absence etc
