Default Holiday Entitlement

Hello, Mr LL was reading at the weekend that Canadians only get around 14 days holiday a year , compared to the average 25 days in the uk. Have people found this to be true?

Thanks

I received something like just over 30 days plus BH in the UK as a nurse, currently on one long holiday but may change later in the year once I get sorted with nursing stuff

Isn't that the norm in the UK? Certainly all of my jobs have always had 25 days holiday, as have my husbands. I don't know anybody that gets less than 25 days?

Even the stingiest boss I ever worked for (very famous and incredibly wealthy man, worked for him for 4 years) who paid much less than going rate for similar jobs, monitored toilet paper usage and only let you make yourself max of two cups of tea/coffee a day (no joke) gave us 25 days!!

Go on...tell us who it was!

And yep, 25 days in UK entirely normal...with a number of years experience, I had 32 days hols at BT plus BHs. Jan had maybe 26 days at Shell.

However, here in Alberta, Jan's leave is 10 days (2 weeks), though that's something we might try and negotiate upwards soon.

Knew someone would ask! OK, won't name and shame but a few obvious hints.........very short man, very tall wife, motorsport supremo, multi-billionaire, etc, etc.

Very odd man, loved my job but 4 years of stress and ridiculous rules and regulations were enough for me!!

I would have thought that 4 weeks was "Normal" in the UK ..... With additional days added for long service, etc? Anything above that is a good deal. (Being a nurse doesn't count as you work bloody long hours and prob need that extra time to recover )

The 3 weeks I get here in Canada doesn't feel too bad....

When I was in NZ, they made it law to have min. 4 weeks holiday entitlement!!

No, 5 weeks is considered normal here, 20 days is the legal minimum but most places give 25. Hence why a lot of people from the UK are worried about suddenly dropping down to 2 weeks hols in Canada!!

I've obviously been out of the UK for too long!!

I used to get 4 weeks in the city, with 5 only after getting into a management position.....
