hi, starting our journey to milton ont. Have just sold the house yesterday phew! we got a good price so veeery happy. Just need to get shifted into rental and send off forms for sponsorship. Anyone know- we have to have proof of sale of house before we send off forms (family class), we don't have the other stuff, ie job offer etc.
Does anyone live in the milton area? what it is like? Can anyone advise good neighbourhoods for children? Is there lots to do? Is the ski area decent and close? Is it an attractive place to live? Any good pubs!? If anyone can shed some light, would be grateful. Thanks.

Cant give too much info on Milton, but i have co-workers that live there and they are very happy where they are! Seems to be a good choice for families (they all have children, and didnt want to live in Toronto). Milton was quoted sometime last year as Canada's (or was it just Ontario's?) fasted growing community. I pass it several times a month on my drive out to Waterloo (and i have to warn you that the traffic between Milton and Toronto is just horrible!!!) and the town seems to be expanding all the time.
Looks to be a reasonable place to live - full of new homes (if you like that sort of thing) with typical plaza's containing the usual Walmart, Boston Pizza, Cineplex's, Fitness club etc. No idea what the "old" town looks like, I think its been built over already.
There are a few ski resorts north and west of the area - we are not talking BC or Alberta standards obviously - but they are all an easy drive.
As for proof of sale of the house - I submitted my application (as a "skilled worker in '99) with just a valuation of the house and my mortgage statement - they were happy with that. I sold my house soon after we applied, but was never asked to provide proof of funds available until I landed in Toronto the following year. (and even then, immigration just asked me how much money I had brought with me, didnt have to prove anything) Actually (and i know this is too late for you) - I actually wished I had not sold my house so soon, another few months increase in equity would have helped!
Hopefully someone who actually lives there will help with other info on pubs and specific areas etc, but just thought I would just say "welcome to the forum" by giving my little opinion!
Anyways, good luck on your journey - its a bit of a roller coaster ride, and canada isnt uptopia, but moving here is something I have not regretted!

thankyou for your reply, any advise is great. We spent time in waterloo when we were out there recently which we loved and have family there, my husband though, did not to be too close to his parents! So thats we thought of milton or guelph, didn't get to see either (saw oakville instead), so a bit unsure. We want to get it right though, as our daughter in school.
We are batting back and forth at the moment between my husband and myself over "we are doing the right thing" conversation, so thanks for the positive reply!

It seems to me that Milton is part of the urban sprawl, essentially a new cookie cutter suburb with malls and chain stores and chain restaurants, while Guelph is an actual town with all of the above but also lots of independent pubs and restaurants.
