Default Hindsght?

My wife and I will be moving to Edmonton in January 2007. We have researched and researched about pretty much everything but no doubt we will have overlooked something. So to all the people who have been in Canada for a while, using the beauty of hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently if you could have your time over?

Yes, I'd have come over ten years earlier!

Seriously - I wished we had realised how different it is to get a job here. We came over when the unemployment rate isabout 4% higher than now - so it was a tougher employment market and we did not realise the importance of networking. If you are looking for a job mention it to about every one, it will most probably be an aquaintance that will pass on your resume that will get you the interview....

Good luck in Edmonton

Clare

The only things I would of done differently are that I would of sold the UK house instead of renting it out and not used an expensive agency to prepare our application. Most things I would of liked to of been different were out of our hands, like the great exchange rate a few years ago and cheaper house prices, but there you go.
Plus like Clare said, Why didn't we do this years ago?
Good luck

no, thanks, just huge delays and what i took to be a realistic timescale which has just vanished. instead of being over in ab for christmas its now looking like early summer. reading about nightmares with prospective employers it dosn't particularly endear me to the edmonton police. trying to stay focused is difficult.

If its any consolation lots of prospective employers in Alberta appear to struggle getting their admin sorted when employing foreign workers. They seem to have a poor grasp of what is required and how long it will take. A generalisation I know but both my wife and I have had to bully things along for our jobs and neither of us got things sorted in anything like projected timescales. Our reccy trips have taught us that things get much better once you are on the ground, so stick in there

Ta, trying, lots of ups and downs at moment and second thoughts as lots of pressure on me. trying to remember the visits and reasons for change, but slowly slipping into mediocrity again, too easy just to drift along.
I'll try instead thinking of the long nights I'll be able to spend soon, just me, my gun, my hair grown into a mullet, and a magazine full of fornicating elk to slaver over.

That's more like it, I just dream of Truck stroking myself.
There is a reason why we do this just keep trying to remember it and kick some slow moving ass occasionally to waken yourself up

So what's gone wrong ? Feel free to tell me to get stuffed (public forum etc)

Are you going on PNP or skilled worker ? Are you reliant upon EPS because of that ?

I'm sure an employer like the EPS will bugger you about like your average construction/trucking firm would
