We too love Vancouver but wanted the slower pace of life that VI offers. So far we have found it to be just that...in fact a little too slow and laid back when we were trying to get things set up in the first week but now that we're settling in to the pace we are loving it!

Get yerself some BC Bud and really slooooooowwwwwww dooooooowwwwnnnn !

The wife & I have just returnes from a 3 week scouting trip to BC & alberta which finally made our minds up that Canada is the place for us. We will be getting the ball rolling ASAP. Signing up here was the first step as it looks like a great resource for all us wantaways.

Looking forward to drawing on all your experiences and sharing ours.:D

Hi and welcome. Seems to be a few lucky people who know Warrington! We live in Winwick at the moment although I hasten to add not in the houses where the hospital was. I hope there aren't any cockroaches there though it looks like a nice enough place to live. So you mentioned you went to BC and Alberta, where is your preference? Do you have a job lined up? We hope to move to Ontario in 2009 on a company transfer fingers crossed. I have family over there and have wanted to live there since I first went when I was 12!!! Goodluck with your plans.

Hi, we live in Winwick too - in the houses where the hospital was hahaha.

We are looking to move soon - just waiting for confirmation of a job offer. The job is based near Jasper - haven't done much research, so what's your experience?

Jasper is a fantastic place. We prefer it to Banff. If the job is IN Jasper, that'll be nice ! If its NEAR Jasper, then you could be in the middle of flippin nowhere. Nice mountains all around you though.!

There are no cockroaches no - unless you count the kids :D

The job is based in Jasper but it's in construction at places within 50 miles radius of Jasper. I'm hoping we can get out there next month for a look round, but the web stuff I've found looks amazing.

Heh.
When I was a lad I used to play Sunday footy against the not very good but notoriously violent "Staff Winwick". A Sunday league footy team composed of male mental health "nurses". You can imagine. And you'd be right. A lad called "Streety" got his leg broke there in about 1982. The pitch was right there behind the hospital. I didnt know houses had been built since and for some perverse reason it makes me smile to think that this lad Streety was lying squealing like a pig in what might now be your kitchen.
Sorry.

Do you know when the houses were built Jalbion? Just wondered as my Dad hadn't realised the hospital wasn't there anymore and was surprised when he visited. Jasper that sounds lovely unfortuneatly never been there hopefully once we're over in Ontario we can do some holidaying in Canada and discover more of the vast country.

Glad the cockroaches rumour can be laid to rest dont like that thought!

Re: Hi from warrington

Where to start :)

My house was finished three years ago, but construction started in 1999, so the hospital, as it was, hasn't been there since 1998/99.

The football pitch, although not recognisable as such, is actually still there - as is the Pavillion which housed the changing rooms. The Pavilion houses office accomodation for 5 Boroughs Partnership Mental Health Trust which runs the new Winwick Hospital, and the "pitch" is an open piece of common land which my husband uses to perfect his golf swing! The kids play football there - and cricket in summer etc

I can imagine the nurses taking frustrations out on poor unsuspecting teams - i used to work at the new hospital, so the old one must have been 10 x worse

I too used to work at the new hospital, between 2000 & 2002. I worked on the female acute ward:eek:

Hi!

I know Warrington quite well. I was brought up in Sale but I used to go with my dad and brother to watch the rugby (league) in Warrington for about 10 years, until I left home to go to university.

Is the job to do with the pipeline? I live an hours drive from Jasper and yes, this part of Canada is totally breathtaking - I feel very lucky to live here. From what I've heard the construction workers (and anyone else looking for a place to rent) are going to have a hell of a time finding accomodation in Jasper next year. It's already pretty packed! You might find yourselves having to look much further afield than you'd ideally like...say, round here...? Tete Jaune Cache, Valemount, etc. (Which in my opinion is much nicer than living in a tourist trap anyway :D)
