We have relatives in aus but not nz, spoke to lots of people who loved visiting but said they probably wouldn't want to live there for the same reasons as you mentioned. OH has distant relatives in canada but we don't know them, might be cool to look them up!

He mentioned Canada first by then we found out all about the christchurch rebuild so focused on that. The cost of travel from there and low wages were one of the main things that put us off.

Obviously both completely different countries but both with different pros and cons. The more we research Canada the more we feel it would be more suited to us. Trips to America are a huge plus for us although we realise there aren't cheap flights like Ryanair and that some employers give employees less holiday time.

Yes we already knew about licences, think it's the same in most countries. Even here he has to do tests to renew his excavator licence every few years.

Anyway I'm rambling now, need to find a employer first so no point getting carried away.

Which part of Canada are you moving to?

Yup,thats the same expo Stacey!
I handed my CV to most companies at the expo, only one got back to me in November, they built my hopes up about a job in Alberta,I have heard nothing since.

I searched indeed.ca,sent out maybe 40-50 emails to employers,2 replied saying that an LMO was too much paperwork for them!

I then spotted an employer advertising 30 vacancies,I had seen this employer advertise the same positions a couple of months before,so picked up the phone, and called them!(this was back in December).
Two weeks ago I had a phone interview with the operations manager for the company, and I got the job ;)

I am bound for Edmonton,Alberta hopefully around mid March(I am just waiting for my LMO,and Job contract to reach me by post, then I am offski!)

Re: Hi there

It looks like a great family oriented city, plenty to keep the kids occupied with all those summer festivals.
A Canadian woman from just outside of Edmonton that my missus talks to says the mall is great, you can dump your kids at the swimming,do some shopping, have lunch with the kids, dump them at the ice skating,do more shopping, take them to one of theme parks etc.. We were told its a great day out.
