BC- British Columbia- Vancouver area. Well we have been here nearly two weeks basically just up sticks and left the UK. we were both fed up in our jobs so thought why not try another continent!! Canada is beautiful and so far we are really enjoying it. Its hard to get your head around the way they do somethings but it just takes time! we are getting there slowly. Everyone is really friendly it takes u 20mins to pay money in the bank cos they are so chatty and always remember you! what is it you do in the UK? we came over to Canada on a Temporary work permit for two years while we decide whether to go for permenant residency. it seems to be a much faster way of doing things. It does you well as well if you have some sort of trade that is sort after..there is a list on one of the Canadian government sites that tells you what is in demand. hope this helps you a little..i know i whitter a little hehehe

Hi there, it sounds like your really enjoying life.. Yeah im in the same position as you where job wise etc..
Im 25 and have been doing telecoms for 4 years and in the part time im doing domestic electrics subcontracting for my brothers business, before that i was bricklaying and have city and guilds and in december im studying to get my electricians quals.. and im looking for an improvers job here so i have the hands on enough experiance too..
Yeah i see british columbia on the map.. to the east of vancover.. can you tell me one thing.. when you go out on to the street is is really busy or is it quite quiet? as i just cant deal with pushing, arrogant normal english people here anymore.. yeah im not tarnishing anyone with the same brush but im just loosing all faith to be honest here...
for example i have a small dog and everymorning and evening i walk him.. (as you do) and i done a test and have done many a time and thought to myself..."no i wont say hello and i will see how many people say hi" so anyway i proceded and i didnt get one response.. i must of walked past 6 people and no one said good morning or good evening.. now im finding that so much lately where people just cant be bothered or just dont have the good manners and it really drives me crazy..
Or another scenario (yeah i know im going on here) but at work i say hello to the same people every day and if i dont say hi they would juyst walk straight passed me with out saying one word.. now i must of been brought up different but i have the good manners to say hi there.. how you doing, hows your day.. but ive come to a point now of not bothering and that just isnt me.. and anyway on that note i will let someone else have an opinion.
But thats not all tbh there are many factors for my decisions but thats probably for tomorrow.
But im so glad there are people on here that are finding there feet as i can imagine it must be tough but tbh it cannot be as tough as a 25 year old on his own with a huge mortgage and no money every month.. but maybe im incorrect..
I have a house but dependant on where you want to settle would determine how small a place or big a place you could get..
Btw is the weather that bad as i love the cold but just not wet all the time as i say to myself here as i wake up " what am i doing here" look at it.. supprise supprise just heaps of clouds and raining again..
thats enough rabbling for a while i think

hey i can relate to a lot of that minus the having a dog!!!Im 22 and my partner is 32 We have moved to a smallish town called Chilliwack they have a website www.chilliwack.com it is big enough to have plenty of shops for all we need but also small enough that its not too busy. It certainly isnt like a big city. People are friendly especially in shops and they all say the phrase "have a good day!" its not busy on the streets plenty of space and no pushing. we are around an hour and a half from vancouver so close enough if u wanna go to some bigger shops etc. and also not far from the US border and about an hour and a half to two hours from Seattle so great for cheap stuff just not attempted that yet. the weather at the moment is glorious sunshine but the temperature is in the minuses!! its cold but bright though we had a few days of rain last week but nothing major..it dries up very quickly. we are surround by beautiful mountains and some lovely lakes. I wont lie price wise for food shopping can be expensive on par with the UK but if you join up for like tesco clubcard equivelants and you pick up coupons your on to a winner. eating out seems to be cheaper too. We are just renting our apartment just now which we are pretty happy with. it has everything we want and need and is close to shops etc without being in a busy area. By the way my partner has come here as a bricklayer!! they are quite sought after but i would say dont get disheartened if you apply for jobs over here the Canadians are quite laid back and slow in replying...we must have applied for over 50 jobs and only got one reply which was the job my partner has taken and they interviewed via telephone. By the way where in Milton Keynes are you? my grandparents are in Bletchly and my aunt is in Buckingham though Im from North of Scotland.

Have you any photos of your local surroundings etc..
btw im living 15 miles from bletchley in a village on the way to buckingham
what is it that you have found to do work wise..? and what did you do in the uk?im suprised that food is very expensive but i suppose being true canadians you need to shoot your food and eat it that night
or for the english people or maybe other places go to "tesco's" or alike to get your supper..btw it looks like its going to be -5 degrees tomorrow and wednesday with flurries of snow.. but sunny for thursday,friday.. result for you two

small world eh?! im not working as yet as i came over as his spouse but can apply for a work permit that allows me to work anywhere without an Labour market oppinion called a Spouses Work Permit. He was supposed to start work today but couldnt due to the weather as it has frozen the sand!! i will send u some pics in a mo via a private message that we have taken mostly of the view from our balcony. we had never been here before we moved here so was a big leap of faith for us! all in all it didnt take too long to move. Andy got offered the job end of September and we moved on 3rd December. Im a believer in not letting the grass grow under your feet!!
