Just wanted to say Hi. My name is Steph, hubby (Dave) and 2 little girls. We are looking at moving to Canada, Dave is a HGV Driver and the work opportunities seem endless. Still really on in the process mainly doing tons of research, I seem to be endlessly soul searching figuring out if it will be good to leave my relatives, and a good move for my little ones.

Welcome to BE. Everyone on here will relate to the tornado of thoughts swirling around your head at the moment and you will find masses of both info and support on this excellent site. We're guessing you've found both the WIKI and the Trucking forum as you mentioned all the research you are doing but just in case...

Any thoughts yet firming in your minds as to what part of Canada most appeals to you guys? We're in Alberta (based south of Calgary). Our blog (link in signature line below) will give you a little taste of southern Alberta and the Rockies. Feel free to have a look...might give some light relief from all the research.

Kind regards,
Eamonn & Janet.

My family and I have just returned this week from a holiday/ job search/ recce in Alberta. Have been away for three weeks. I was amazed at how brilliant it is for the kids out there( we have three girls 15, 11 and 3). We have had a wonderful time, the Canadians are really friendly, the weather was very hot and sunny but I know how cold it gets in winter! My husband has been re training as an HGV driver because we thought it would be a quick way in for us. However he has been offered three managerial jobs during our time out there!!! Yippee!!!!! I think you would be doing the best thing for your children and whilst it is hard to leave family behind web cams make wonderful leaving presents!!

we are hping to do it ourselves. Employer is sorting out LMO. As I understand it we do not need medicals, and can pick up WP at point of entry?? Also i will get an open work permit because of the NOC code of my husbands job.

Glad you liked the blog. It certainly is a place of great beauty out this way. Feel free to PM or email us if there is anything we can do to assist.
Re using a consultant, Christmasoompa has given their usual excellent advice. We would concur...save your money...if you can make your way around this forum and the WIKI and there are no particularly complicated circumstances involved, we're sure you can do the paperwork without difficulty.
Plenty of encouragement too from the excellently monickered zippadydoda...certainly shows the value of a well planned research trip when you get that sort of result. Well done guys.

Eamonn & Janet.
